ESWC returns for 2010

ImageESWC, one gaming's most prestigious main event, is returning to France with a Grand Final in 2010 which will take place at Disneyland.

With no Grand Final in 2009 fans could be forgiven for thinking the Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) as they remembered it was gone. Now news emerges in the form of a press release which claims the 7th ESWC Grand Final will take place in in Paris, France, from June 30th to July 4th 2010.

The organizers of the new ESWC will be DIP-Organisation, who are apparently already known within France, and they will be in parternship with a number of other known organizations. The event will be held at Disneyland in the Disney Village. The event will accomodate 600 gamers in the resort's hotels.

The prize for the event will be $200,000 and it will be divided over the following eight games:

Counter-Strike
Counter-Strike female
WarCraft III
Trackmania ESWC
FIFA 2010
Virtual Tennis
Need for speed Shift
Street Fighter 4

Apparently more will be added at some point in 2010.

Qualification will begin in January of 2010 and 32 countries are expected to be included.

Can the event return to its former glory and prestige? Will we see eternal moments within Esports comparable to PGS' back-to-back victories or a young Danish team called The-Titans emerging from nowhere to take the crown?

The event will have a lot to prove, especially since Stéphane Cosse, the head of DIP Communication and DIP Organisation, was apparently a key figure behind the Adéclik organization who ran the Clikarena event in 2003.

That event was so badly organized that the entire Counter-Strike tournament took place in about one and a half days with teams not knowing which day they would play on, playing late into the night and then being told to come back early in the morning. The prize money for the event was also never paid out, leaving a legendary top 3 (9.esu, eoL and SK.swe) without any reward for their success.

Discussion of the news has also revealed this unsettling story about the organizers.
