IEST: Sky to face one half of SK duo in final

ImageHuman legend Sky is waiting to face either Lyn or Check in the final of IEST.

Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li seems to have regained some form after a disappointing performance at WCG. The Chinese player has already overcome some of the best players in the world on his way to the final, including WCG runner-up Weiliang 'Fly100%' Lu. Sky will probably be hoping for June 'Lyn' Park to beat his SK teammate since the human has already defeated three world class orc, including a 2-0 victory over Lyn himself. But he will have no fear of Hyeong Ju 'Check' Lee after beating him 2-1 in an earlier round also.

The map pool for the final looks nice for a human player as well. Melting Valley, the first map, presents one of the easiest fast expansions that WC3 currently has to offer. But Sky showed some versatility in his earlier game against Lyn by tower rushing him at tier one, despite the huge distance between bases. Lyn had teched without a Barracks and was made to pay for it. Never the less, it would be a huge surprise if Sky doesn't expand against Check at least.

Twisted Meadows will be the 2nd map, which can go either way in both matchups. Against orc it is particularly even, while an expansion against nightelf is very tough to stop. We are likely to see a Warden on this map, should Check make it to the final. But at 60% wins for Sky, this is his weakest map of the three. Up third will be Echo Isles, which is one of Sky's better maps maps. A 65% win ratio is impressive and EI leaves a lot of options open for an intelligent player like Sky. But for Check, it is only a 53% map - not surprising when you consider how easy it is for humans to expand. This is likely to be another Warden map if the elf reaches the final.

Before all that, however, there is the lower bracket final. It's been a few months since Lyn met Check in a best-of-three series but the orc was victorious at G-League finals. Neither player has been on their best form since then, so this is a game which either player can win. Nightelf-vs-orc form at IEST gives us no clues either. Check has only played one, which he won, while Lyn is yet to face an elf at the event. Expect a close 2-1 win for either player.
