trace and mTw.dk take over against Virtus.Pro

ImageThe reigning WCG champions faced the challengers Virtus.Pro in a key game in deciding the seedings of Group C. In the end mTw.dk and trace prevailed and scored a nice victory in the nuke game.

A key tie in Group C was between mTw and Virtus.Pro on nuke as the Russians needed a victory to make up for their narrow loss to Power Gaming and keep their fate in their own hands. As it was it was the reigning WCG gold medalists who took the game, finishing strong at the end to prevent another of the close battles the Russians are so apt to force yet ineffective at finishing overall. Big play from new recruit Martin Alexander 'trace' Bang Heldt on the CT side saw the Danes breathing easier and punishing Virtus' mistakes as his colt did its work on their heads.

mTw 20:10 Virtus.Pro (nuke - 9:6, 11:4)

First half

Virtus.Pro began another big game taking the pistol round and the ecos, but once again they counted hold onto that momentum. mTw.dk got on the board thanks to a 2v3 where Sunde planted lower and got a quick peeking kill to make it 2v2. With his team-mate then killed he was left in a 1v2 and with both Virtus.Pro players rushing him up the metal stairs where he was hiding at the top of the blast doors area. Sunde showed why he is an elite player and dispatched both Russians to win the round and get his team into the game.

mTw.dk then ran off five more consecutive rounds to go up 6:3. Two of those sounds had Virtus.Pro refusing to engage after losing men and trying to save three colts at the metal stairs outside area. The first time they lost two of them to trace's push and perhaps that is why they opted to try it a second time to account for their poor economical situation. On the 9th round Sunde won another 1v2 situation, this time tricking hooch into following him around the hut so there was no time for a fake defuse.

Virtus peeled off three rounds thanks to excellent upper play which saw them smashing anyone who attempted to come out of the squeaky door area over and over. Despite having tied the game at 6:6 it was the Danes who would seize the final momentum of the half and win the last three rounds to end the half 9:6.

Second half

Things began well for the Danish team as they won the pistol round and the next two rounds to get up to 12:6. The 18th round going from a 3v3 to a 3v2 when hooch killed Sunde from behind as he pushed through the T roof area. When the Russians planted lower zonic killed one and then after dying it was down to trace who killed both remaining Virtus players and got the defuse in time.

The next three rounds when the way of Virtus.Pro as they hit upper successfully but after mTw.dk seized a round back and made it 14:9 things were getting a little late in the day for the Russians. mTw.dk took the game 20:10 in the end and even denied Virtus some of the garbage rounds.
