Remind beats Violet to claim Zotac #111

ImageThe 111th edition of Zotac Cup went to MYM's nightelf player after he defeated Violet.

Two ex-SK men went head-to-head in the Zotac Cup final last night. The Zotac superstar, Dong Hwan 'viOlet' Kim, was unable to claim his 7th weekly cup thanks to a superb performance from the the MYM man. Sung Sik 'ReminD' Kim maintained his advantage over his fellow Korean, having lost just two matches from a total of six against Violet.

Both players had difficult semi-finals. Remind had to face an undead in the shape of Juan 'VortiX' Moreno Durán while Violet had a tough orc mirror against Hyo Sub 'FoCuS' Eom. Both players also just squeaked through with 2-1 victories.

But if the semi-finals were close, the final itself was more like a massacre. Game one was especially fast - under five minutes - as Violet went for an all-or-nothing tower push. After losing one grunt and almost all the HP on his hero and another grunt, Violet simply left the game, seeing that the opportunity had passed.

Game two was a little longer, but still not very typical of the matchup. Remind seemed to be using a mass DoTT build on Echo Isles but a sly Hunter's Hall meant that Violet's Tauren Chieftain was rendered semi-useless. Remind's mass Dryads gave the elf player a solid start, but late Bears really helped to push the advantage home. A nice use of a Wand of Illusion meant that Violet's Kodos were eating nothing but images and the orc said "gg" when his TC died.

Game three was much more standard, with Remind going for mass DoTTs on Melting Valley. Violet seemed to have the better of the opening exchanges, and had a huge advantage 10 minutes into the game. The orc had 50 food to Remind's 32, as well as an 800 gold advantage. But the nightelf played a perfect stalling game, buying time to get an expansion up and to catch up on the food count. When Remind eventually got the army he wanted, there was only one winner.
