The days are being counted down until the start of WCG. Amongst the team participating is H2k Gaming with its new line up. Coming closer to D-Day, I speak to SpawN concerning his comeback and the chances of the team at WCG.Abdisamad 'SpawN' Mohamed is one of those names in the gaming scene that, no matter where he goes and what he does, will always be remembered for his past achievements and for many fans, the hopes of a major comeback of this oldschool and brilliant Counter-Strike player.
After Johan 'face' Klasson and Frej 'kHRYSTAL' Sjöström joined SK Gaming following Marcus 'zet' Sundström and Jim 'zneel' Andersson's departure, H2k found themselves two men down with a ticket to the World Cyber Games thanks to the Swedish Qualifier in which they placed second. This is where Zneel and SpawN joined to complete the line up.
Spawn stepped down from SK Gaming back in September 2008 and since hadn't played officially for any team. We have seen him stay in action though, doing 1on1 show matches, stepping in for Blank at the EM3 and also play in a temporary, legendary, line up in Lemondogs with Christian 'vilden' Lidström, Christer 'fisker' Eriksson and Emil 'striker' Westerberg for the Inferno Online League Season 3 Finals. SpawN always remained in the scene but hadn't given away any hints of a comeback until he came out with his video (see here) claiming a huge comeback.
This comeback, as discovered on October 16th, was to be in the shape of H2k Gaming. With not even a month to practise together with the team, I got together with SpawN to talk about his retiring and comeback decision and the chances he see's for H2k Gaming at the World Cyber Games, due to start this Thursday early morning.
You are known for being hugely successful in teams such as SK Gaming and NiP, so what was it that made you temporarily stop playing in the first place?
The reason was simply because I became tired of playing. It was really not as fun any longer and I lost my motivation. That is something that happens in whatever you're doing. So I thought it was time for me to fall back a bit and do some other things.
I do not regret it at all. This was needed to get the desire back. I knew I would make a comeback sooner or later, I just wanted to find the right time to do it.
Do you think it is possible to bring back the epic SpawN we all know you as, even after taking "a break"?
Ofcourse, its just matter of time. I'm practicing a lot now with the H2k guys. It feels good and I think you will see some great matches from us in the near future.
What is it in Counter-Strike that made you comeback for it?
Of course the big tournaments. I couldn't stand watching HLTV anymore haha. And also it was ZOWIE who really gave me the inspiration to get back on track again. My job with ZOWIE is to test different types of gaming equipment with different kinds of materials. So after a while playing and testing of various types of equipment i slowly gained some motivation and also started to miss competing again.
What do you believe to be the biggest difference in todays scene from the years when you were playing in, for instance, Matrix?
There is a lot more thinking now than there was in the Matrix time. You can not really compare the old times and the current situation. Everyone plays faster and aims much better now.
And how are you enjoying playing with H2k so far?
It's going very well and I'm having a good time with my new teammates so far. I believe in H2k.
You've been praccing exceptionally hard for WCG, how has that been going?
For an entirely new team its hard to get in shape that fast but we are trying hard. We do not have much time so we have tried to play as much as we can, actually. Not saying that we are completely ready, but we are quite ready I hope. It's been going quite okay in training.
I also saw that you all together, or mostly all together, participated at multiple smaller LANs in Scandinavia, what has been the feedback of people you played against so far?
Yes, we won Norrlan. The new Begrip lineup was there but more than that it was no other known teams there. But there were talented Swedish semi-elites there and they are actually pretty good. We played against Team Eneric which also include Zyppe and they gave us some troubles to be honest haha. They played very well.
What about the fans? you must have received lots of "welcome back" messages?
Haha yes a couple actually. I am very grateful of the fans.
What's H2k's secret weapon compared to other teams?
Our secret weapon is our individual skill, I believe. We have really good aimers on our team.
That will probably not happen to me. I am here to stay, you will see more from me.
You are extremely popular in Asia, is H2k planing to perhaps stay in Asia after WCG, or return to do some promotional stuff?
We will fly home directly after WCG, but in the future, maybe it might show up a promotional tour with H2k guys. You never know, we'll see.
What are your expectations for H2k at WCG, and who are you looking forward to play against?
We're planning on getting past the group stage atleast :) and looking forward to play against fnatic, of course.
What are your thoughts on the current amount of top Swedish teams? For instance, imagine a LAN with MYM.swe, fnatic, SK Gaming and H2k.
I am happy that Sweden is dominating again. A big tournament with all those top Swedish teams would have been really fun!
Whats happened with Adidas? There were some nice Spawn Adidas clothing lines.
Haha I really do not know what happened. I gave away my only sweater I had to my little cousin... Adidas if you read this, contact me! I need a new sweater!
Have you ever thought about selling some of the old gaming accessories you used to use, on eBay? I reckon quite a bit of money could be made from that.
You know what, i do not have any of my old equipment to be honest. I gave it all away to friends and such.
Thank you for answering these questions. Any last words?
Thanks to my fans! Will video blog and so on from WCG, check spawnblog.com for more information. ZOWIE4LIFE!

Alot of professional players who took a break from CS and come back quite often don't make it back to their initial A-game and as quickly as they came back, dissapear again. What about you, is this temporary? That will probably not happen to me. I am here to stay, you will see more from me.
