European TDM team pstarZ have added the legendary Marius "shub" Jones, famous for being one of the best duel and TDM players in Quake 2 history. It appears the Quake Live Team Deathmatch side pstarZ have added Marius "shub" Jones to their team, having him in action for their game against LowLandLions. He joins another Quake legend in the side as Mouz's Anton 'Cooller' Singov is currently on loan for TDM.
pstarZ:
Anton "Cooller" Singov
Yuri "Frozen" Romanov
Mike "Razorx" Jeurissen
Kyle "Silencep" Mooren
Marius "shub" Jones
shub was at one point considered the best European Quake 2 player. He won the European Duel League, even getting the chance to play the Americaqn Makaveli on LAN in a supermatch of sorts. In Team Deathmatch in Q2 shub's team, Memento Mori, were sublime as they had an incredible winning record which made them close to unbeatable, especially on Q2DM1. Ex-eoLithic and SK player DarK was a member of that team along with shub.
When Quake 3 came out shub was unimpressed and due to Quake 2's popularity suffering heavily by newer players going to its sequel shub disappeared off into the world of MMO games and out of the FPS spotlight. His only significant appearance being attending the XSReality Invitational tournament in Stockholm which was filled with legends from QW and Q3 and won by a young Fatal1ty. shub did reappear very briefly to play the winner of a Quake 2 LAN as part of the player's prize. His game against new school monster Purri was not particularly competitive and showed how little Quake 2 shub had played in the preceding years.
It should be pointed out that while shub is listed under his old alias of shub_niGGa this is not intended as a racial slur, but rather refers to the final boss in Quake who was called Shub Niggurath. This in itself was a reference to a character by the same name in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
