So wheels it is?

It's been some time since I last blogged and as you know one of my favourite topics is music of course. So here you end up again. TheSlaSH blogging about some music. Actually I would like to start a blogging discussion with some people I know that care about music as well and see where it takes us from here. Music is key!

When I first heard the new Foo Fighters song "Wheels" I was like: wow, a new foos song. And don't get me wrong, I like the song a lot. But then, when I thought about it for some time my feelings changed a little. Even though wheels is a good piece of music, it won't get across this tiny line that makes it a great piece of music.

Considering the last two singles Foo Fighters released along with new albums, wheels is by far the weakest. Both "Best of you" and "Pretender" were master pieces in my mind. Music and lyrics really kick ass. Especially Pretender is one of these songs you will always connect to a band. Of course the video did it's job here as well. You can find it in my videos on SK. Anyway, what I am saying is: wheels is just another decent song and can't stand the competition with great stuff from FF, as simple as that. Let's see what the second new song to be released early November on the greatest hits album brings to the table.

Anyway, while I am a bit disappointed by what I experienced with wheels, I found great new music. First of all I was wondering where Dave Grohl was losing his energy if not in a new FF song and of course he is working on a site project atm. Them crooked vultures, one of the so called super bands right now. Looking at the members of the band, Dave Grohl (FF - obviously), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul Jones (Led Zepplin) you expect magic. I can only advise to check out their YouTube website where you will find 3 snippets of their material. All of which sound great. Dave is playing the drums here btw:

Lucky enough I will go to London with Anita in December and besides our usual tour to the theatre, we will see TCV live! Really looking forward to it.

The other band one has to listen to right now is The dead weather, the second super band with Jack White (White Stripes), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Ranconteurs). Their music is kind of new and refreshing. Especially Treat me like your mother is killer in my eyes. Watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7QSkI6My1g
Unfortunately I won't see them in Cologne on 1st November cause duty calls me to Soul while they play here. I know the booking agent for the band quite well and a would have had the chance to hang out with the band a bit while in Cologne. DAMN!

Next musician in line would be Mr. Duff McKagan who formed his band "Loaded" some time ago. And only this year the second album was released called "Sick". Well, there is not much one has to say about Duff I guess. The son of Seattle was always connected to Punk Rock ever since and you can see that on his debut. I got myself a copy of the album while shopping at my favorite record store in Berlin and listening to it for the very first time I was amazed. Especially the songs Blind Date Girl and No More are great material. If you want to listen to a great outro, just like in Rocket Queen, No More is your song. The way they open up the song towards the end is simply put great!
I missed Loaded when playing in Germany this year and I hope for them to come back, soon!

Which leads me to, surprise, surprise, Slash.
He is working on his solo album to be released in Feb/Mar 2010 and according to him there is a lot of great material for it. No doubt about that! Just last week Slash was recording a song for it and guess who was playing along with him? Exactly, Grohl and McKagan. Small world it is, right?
I am quite sure this album will be special and for the first time we will listen to Slash very much unfiltered cause for his solo project he chose every song and every musician to work with very carefully. I would love to sneak into his home studio just to listen to some of the tracks already, but I guess we all have to wait a bit.

Now I am off to get my hands on some Depeche Mode. Yes, you read the right words. Depeche Mode. Sven recommended it, so I will check it out. I loved old stuff and "wrong" sounds strong, too. Let's see how their latest album sounds like after all.

Cheers and reply with lots and lots of blogs and recommendations and don't spare criticism for sure!
