As expected Poland's finest Counter-Strike team have not failed to live up to their reputation as the have won the Polish WCG qualifier. They beat their old organization, PGS, in the final. The ex-WICKED team have emerged victorious from the Polish WCG qualifier and secured their spot in China for the grand finals. Along the way to the victory the team beat Frag eXecutors and PGS both 2 maps to 0.
According to mymym ex-WICKED won the final map, de_dust2, by 16:11 over PGS.
WCG Poland placings
1. ex-WICKED
2. D-Link PGS
3. BenQ DELTAeSPORTS.com
4. Frag eXecutors
The ex-WICKED side have seen their ups and downs in 2009. The collapse of ESWC, and with it the disappearance of their first prize money from 2008's finals, seemed to set the tone for an up and down year of disappointments and redemptions. Most recently, with a 3rd at Kode5 and a 2nd at GameGune, the team look set to challenge once more titles. Since their 2nd at EM III Dubai it seems as though the Poles have become a team who are more consistent in being able to make it deep into the top 3, where before they would typically win an event outright or fall apart before the deepest stage.
Star player Filip 'Neo~' Kubski still received two nominations for the esports awards (best Counter-Strike player, best esports player) and rightfully so. Whether or not the team regains the world #1 spot they will seemingly always be a heavy dark horse team as their WCG gold medals and two ESWC titles can attest to.
