Grubby, Fly100%, wNv.cn and TitaNs to GCC

ImageThe Warcraft III scene gains some extra excitement as Esports legend Grubby joins the list for the Global Challenge Chengdu. He is accompanied by Fly100% and for CS wNv.cn and TitaNs get an invite.

Four more spots on the list for the Global Challenge Chengdu have been filled as ESL continues to drip feed us names. Wc3 fans are unlikely to be disappointed as future husband Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen gets set to do battle at the event along with the home nation's Weiliang 'Fly100%' Lu. With the four qualifiers from Sunday's event that leaves two players still to come.

For Counter-Strike two more Asian teams were extended invitations as China's own wNv.cn and Singapore's TitaNs further rounded out the field of particpiants. With only two more teams to be announced fans will likely have already begun speculating which established teams' organizations are facing financial problems as some significant teams, on paper, are conspicuously absent from the Chinese event's list.

Grubby has been a figure larger than merely the audience of his Esports discipline of choice for a number of years now. Well known for his loyalty to the 4kings organization Grubby now plays a member of Evil Geniuses. His trophy cabinet and collection of oversized cheques must be the envy of even some of the other elite Warcraft III competitors, one must imagine.

This ESWC champion, two time WCG gold medallist and WSVG winner's game remains one of the most successful and profitable within Warcraft III. In 2009 Grubby placed 2nd at the EM III Continental Finals Asia, won e-Stars Seoul and placed 2nd at BlizzCon. The only significant speedbump along the way being a disappointing 9th-16th at ESWC Masters Cheonan in May.

Mouz's Fly100%, who currently sits atop the GosuGamers rankings, was the winner of NiceGameTV League Season 1 just over a year ago and this year has run up a nice laundry list of placings with a victory in PGL Season IV, a 3rd at ESWC Masters Cheonan and a 3rd at e-Stars Seoul.

wNv.cn have always suffered from living in the shadow of the more well known wNv.gm team, though with some of the bigger names no longer associated with their fellow squad they find themselves in an excellent situation to begin changing that for good. After starting 2009 with a bang upseting WeMade Fox to win EM III Continental Finals Asia the team struggled to make an impact at ESWC Masters Cheonan, placing 9th-16th despite yet another victory over the Koreans.

TitaNs, not to be confused with the 2004 ESWC champions The-Titans of Denmark, have a name which extends back further than many casual fans may be aware. The organization had a team under that name who competed at CPL Winter back in 2002 where they upset then CAL invite champions Rival before being eliminated by Norway's eoLithic. Amazingly two members of that team remain present in the roster of the current team, namely Prasad "StrykerX" Paramajothi and "Randy" Lai. Sadly for Singapore the team had seen little success and is one of the reasons Asian teams were often considered incapable of competing with the best teams from the West. In January TitaNs took 3rd at the aforementioned EM III Continental Finals Asia.
