Faction change is live in the US; Europe TBA

ImageThe faction change system that has been in the works for the past couple of months has finally gone live on US realms. The date of the European launch has yet to be announced.

The 'customisability' of World of Warcraft took a step up today, as paid faction changes were rolled out on American realms this evening. The price is $30 (around €21) and transfers are given a 60 day cooldown. However, players will be able to choose the specific race when they transfer faction, according to the FAQ. But characters can only be transferred to a race that supports their class; no bloodelf warriors or dwarf shamans just yet.

Blizzard also confirmed another upcoming change which many WoW players were expecting. "Based on further community feedback, we have also decided to offer a race change service in the future," said Nethaera on the official forum. Further details of the race change service will be announced at a later date.

The FAQ makes it clear that all gear, items and gold will remain with the character, with the exception of faction-specific objects. These will be exchanged for your new faction's equivalent. For example, level 60 twinks will have their Marshal's items swapped for High Warlord's.
