The latest incarnation of CPL has announced the renewal of its old partnership with Dreamhack. It's been quite a while since the CPL was brought back from the dead by a group from Abu Dhabi. But today saw the first Europe-orientated announcement as the CPL teams up with Dreamhack.
The Swedish organisation held many events for CPL in the past and both parties were happy to rekindle their relationship. "The CPL has always enjoyed a close strategic partnership with DreamHack in the past," said Scott Valencia, CEO of the CPL. "It [the partnership] renews and reaffirm this close strategic partnership." David Garpenståhl echoed those sentiments: "we are really looking forward to arranging our first DreamHack Qualifier in China together with The CPL."
However, tradition will be broken somewhat as the Chinese qualifier will be with Street Fighter IV. "Street Fighter IV is one of the most popular games world wide right now," explained Garpenståhl.
The winner of the CPL Chengdu event in October will earn an expenses-paid trip to Jonkoping, Sweden for the biggest Dreamhack event of the year, Dreamhack Winter. The Dreamhack organisation will also hold a qualifier for the event at the same time as the Chengdu event. Further details of that qualifier have yet to be released.
