The tournament will be increased from eight to sixteen players, by invite. This is due to requests by players attending Quakecon who because of that could not attend the qualifiers.
After inquiry by SK, Carmac responded with:
Noting, however, that players who asked to be signed up for the tournament will have to pay for their own entrance tickets to Gamescom. There will still be four spots for people signing up at the ESL Booth, awarded through a lottery.
So far only four players have been invited, being Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson, Bogdan 'Bodzo' Mazur, Mikael 'PURRI' Tarvainen and Oleg 'eoe.d1ablo' Kogut with more being announced soon. They will join up with Jeffrey 'Draven' Debipersad, Felix 'smoke' Pafel, Kevin 'Strenx' Baeza and Richard 'noctis' Gansterer, all of whom qualified through the online qualifiers.
The map pool will be the same as the one used during Quakecon. A map pool that was asked for by players. However, unlike Quakecon this time the rules let people drop two maps before choosing their own home map.

After inquiry by SK, Carmac responded with:
"We expanded the tournament due to popular demand. When we began getting inquiries about the Pro/Am Challenge from players like rapha, av3k and fox who were not able to participate in the qualifiers, we have decided that everyone would be satisfied if we raised the player number."

I bet it will be Rapha vs Noctis in the grand final and Rapha will take it. Hopefully they'll play ZTN
This event is a sham sofar... first they have qualifiers then they invite random players because of "demand" and then theres 4 random slots open for whoever turns up... just offensive to the people who had to qualify to get their slots imo.
What could be better for Quake Live then having the Quakecon winner attending the only event that we know will happen this season of the intel extreme masters?
gl Rapha.
And ofc, GO STRENX !
