emuLate.BoZo: "We don't want to disappoint you"

ImageFollowing a disappointing performance at KODE5, emuLate is keen to get the winning boat on the go at Gamegune which started today. I caught up with their manager, Raphael 'BoZo' Bonstein to have a closer look at their chances and the announcement of their soon-to-be new organisation.

emuLate has been the name on everyones tongues in France, being the most stable line-up esports has probably ever seen, this team is a dinosaur amongst gaming organisations. However, their results fluctuate, and they remain inconsistent. This is why I took a little time together with their manager to take a look their chances at the current GameGune 2009 event and what is around the corner for them in the future, including the announcement of their new organisation.

Hi, please to meet you, first of all, give us a little introduction as to who you are for people who may not know you.

Hello beentea, I'm Raphael 'M&BoZo' Bonstein, 21 years old, studying computer sciences. As the manager of emuLate, I'll be speaking in the name of the five players that are already on their way to Bilbao. Unfortunately I won't be there with them as I'm doing an internship in Isreal, so it gives me free time to answer interviews... ;)

Your team is currently participating in the Gamegune event in Spain, their first group games starting tomorrow at 11:00 CET. Has the team been training in any particular way? such as bootcamping? or were you just PCW'ing for this?

"No matter how many hours you play, it's never enough"
Yeah you guessed really great, we are! There's been a lot of movement around us, added to holidays after exams and stuff, so we prepared events like we prepare most of them, without bootcamping. Not because of lack of motivation, because we're on our way with some hours of play behind us! But no matter how many hours you play, it's never enough!

You're in a group with Vitriolic Gaming , k1ck eSports Club which you've already beaten at KODE5, and OverGame , do you think it will be as easy as everyone expects it to be top of your group?

ImageInternational events have always been something important in our eyes, if we go there we're not gonna play for fun in any of our matches. Every match we'll do has its own trouble and we'll relax only when the tournament is over! Thanks to expect us at the top of the group, I'll call my guys to ask them not to disappoint you okay?!

OK! Have you talked to them recently? how was their flight? any troubles? as you may have heard some members of TBH.eSports missed their flights and XIX just totally didn't show up.

Well they all met in the south of France some hours ago to go by car. It was easier for everybody and it's just like 3 hours by car from Bordeaux so they made it ok. I guess they didn't miss their flight then, and the only trouble they had is the classic childish "I'm not gonna sit in the middle" or "I'm out of batteries lend me yours!". We had to attend this one, just like I told you earlier, we don't want to disappoint you!

"Fnatic showed something very impressive at their last events."
You beat kick at the KODE5 global finals but then lost quite heavily against fnatic. Do you think that, now that SK Gaming , fnatic , mTw , etc... are at eStars this gives your team more of a chance at Gamegune or would you be ready to take them (SK, fnatic) on again if they were at gamegune?

In my opinion, Fnatic showed something very impressive at their last events. I heard they had a break so I'm really curious to know if they'll still be as strong as they used to. Anyway. As said before, I won't give any prognostic on "beatable" teams. We had this unusual movement for us this summer and it mixed us up. I hope they'll do their best and show to everybody they can still kick-ass.

Apart from being one of the, if not the, top team in France, emuLate is known for having the most stable line-up out there. However, a little birdy told me you might be switching organisation, is this correct and will you all be sticking together?

This birdy looks cool, you should introduce me he owns cool secrets! Well yeah since a couple of minutes it's even official, we changed organisation and are all staying together. I always thought they were, between them, the team, being sticky together but shh... :) Anyway we really have had trouble in emuLate and you could feel it even in our game. We had to make things move and I just hope this renewal will turn things for the better for us. We had to take that risk if people still wanted us to be together. I hope it will still last for long!

So do you think switching organisation might improve the teams playstyle?

"I felt like something new is on their mind, let's hope that this thing I felt is envy"
That's always what a manager hopes for but I think no one on earth or anywhere else would be able to say. emuLate! was part of our e-life let's see how we will evolve now? I'm jewish, I bet only when I know that I'll win (and that there's money on the bet). Let's all wait and see their evolution, I'm not an actor in their playstyle in their shape or whatever, but I felt like something new is on their mind, let's hope that this thing I felt is envy!

ImageWell thank you for the interview and good luck for your team in Gamegune, to finish it off, any shoutouts?

Well being in a (too) religious country at the moment, I'll make it as it works here. First of all, I'd like to thank gPotato in the name of oXmoze. (so first comes the money). Now, separated thank to you Elke, Milu, Sa3r and Sarah and secondly I'll thank Marc, stab, mele and all the players I'm working for. They really are something :) Last but not least, I'd like to thank in the name of the team all the people that support us, it really means a lot to us.
