ENC: Sweden advance, holders escape playoff

Holders Germany joined Group A winner Sweden at European Nations Championship finals after Denmark failed to beat Ukraine in the last round.

Following an unexpected defeat to Denmark in the opening match, Germany pulled off a 4-game winning streak despite marginal in most cases, and temporarily overtook Russia as the first place in Group B.

Denmark had the opportunity to qualify for the finals directly should they have beaten Ukraine, but Mykhaylo 'HoT' Novopashyn kept the Danes at bay with defeats of René 'Ciara' Krag and Thomas 'ThomasG' Glinski before Mihail 'Kas' Hayda winning his postponed match against ThomasG last night.

They will have to meet Group A second place Spain in the playoff. The Spaniards had to beat Sweden by huge margin in the last round to ensure their first appearance at ENC finals, but both Hjalmar 'DowaQ' Högberg and Daniel 'LiiLD.C' Claesson beat Juan 'VortiX' Moreno Durán to seal passage for the Swedes.

The Netherlands also earned a match against Russia for a place in the finals, which will be held in Cologne, Germany this August. They tied France at the third place with same point and set difference, but eventually snatched a narrow win over France in their final showdown.
