Blizzard Claims "Cataclysm"

ImageBlizzard Entertainment was found to have filed three trademarks on various assets. This likely correlates for the now-customary policy Blizzard maintains where they announce their new titles once a year.

Last year, diablo3.com was a domain name operated by hopeful Diablo fans that were picking up speculation about a potential third game. It, of course, was purchased for a happy fee by Blizzard Entertainment who then opened a new portal at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitation under www.blizzard.com/diablo3. Now, Blizzard has recently picked up three separate trademarks on computer games, paper-based products, and online games.

This comes coincidentally after a non-operational Australian website called "wowcataclysm.com" expired on June 29th. The domain name is now reportedly being held by GoDaddy, the same service that manages all the current Blizzard Entertainment domain names. With this in mind, the probability of this being at least a portion of the next expansion pack and not an entire game is great.

The only definite part of this is the three trademarks and the transferring of the domain name wowcataclysm.com. In the likelihood that this is in fact the third World of Warcraft expansion, the name "cataclysm" is often related to the event in lore called the "Great Sundering" and the creation of the Great Sea. As for the time being and perhaps this upcoming BlizzCon, this matter can only be speculated.
