According to Blizzard's Rob Pardo, there are no plans for Starcraft2 to support LAN due to new technology incorporated into the new Battle.net. This could prove a killing blow for third party programs like Garena.Third party programs such as Garena or the more popular Versus in China used to allow games to be played with extremely lower ping than Battle.net. will find themselves unable to support Starcraft2 if this is true.
Senior vice president of Blizzard Entertainment, Rob Pardo did not reveal any specifics about the upcoming changes to Battle.net but did mention that it will continue to be a free services aside from some minor differences in Asia and that in the current layout there are no advertisements.
"Obviously those things have been discussed but nothing has been decided," said Starcraft2 Lead Design Dustin Browder. "We spent a lot of money on Battle.net, right, so we need some way to sustain it," he continued, but "current mockups do not include ads."
For Starcraft2 to not support LAN at all, does change the outlook of how the game will be played in a competitive environment, and perhaps signals that the new Battle.net will include some of the technology that has made Garena and Versus so popular.

As for the illegal copies, it started like masaa for me, making a house LAN with friends when suddenly someone popped a wc3 version and everybody could play. I bought the game a week later, but I might have never played wc3 if it wasn't for the "Let's try that game all together" experience.
btw get chaos launcer if you want to play online with lan latency ^_^
Sad :(
We'll make our own ladder (iCCup) and our own Anti-Hack (LordOfChaos) along with LAN Latency (Chaos Plugin).
Bravo Blizzard for incorporating auto-mine, MBS, diminishing the APM required to be good, and now no LAN...
Looks like I'll be playing Brood War for another year until all the kinks get worked out t_T
@LegendaryMLW They won't receive any complaints from the communities that are dedicated to playing. We fix stupid s**t ourselves and host our own tournaments.
...diminishing the APM required to be good, is too noob and LAME.
