ImageThe American game developer, id Software, has been acquired by ZeniMax Media, a popular American publisher, marketer and distributor of computer and video games most famously known for its games Oblivion and Fallout.

id Software is responsible for the games Doom and Quake, they stressed that the infrastructure of id Software will not change and remain under the direction of John Carmack. Carmack also recently revealed that he is "tired of publishing deals". This would indeed refrain of creating a "publisher war" in times of an economical crisis of an already unstable market.

Robert Altman, a movie executive part of the ZeniMax Media group, told gameindustry.biz that he believes that this will help to improve the future games but delivers no news about the possible changes of previous id Software games

"They [id Software] have demonstrated, repeatedly, that rare ability to create franchise properties that are critical and commercial successes. Our intention is to make sure id Software will continue to do what they do best – make AAA games. Our role will be to provide publisher support through Bethesda Softworks and give id Software the resources it needs to grow and expand."

The development of id Softwares game, Rage, will continue as normal.
