SocceR goes BlizzCon, Lyn goes Grand Final

Yesterday saw the final slot for BlizzCon 2009 filled by Deok Man "SocceR" Youn after he defeated Seo "Reign" Woo Kangin the lower bracket semi-final.

SoCCeR qualifies for BlizzCon

The Blizzard Korean Regional Finals will not be completely wrapped up until the 19th June, when the consolation and Grand Final will be played, but the three remaining players are all certain of a place at BlizzCon 2009.

Deok Man 'SocceR' Youn was knocked into the lower bracket by June 'Lyn' Park in the first round but has progressed through all three LB matches beating Hyo Sub 'FoCuS' Eom, Hyeong Ju 'Check' Lee and Seo Woo 'ReiGn' Kang to earn himself a LB Final against WC3L winner Chul Woo 'Shy' Park.

The clanless SocceR has a strong Elf mirror as does his opponent, and he already finished ahead of Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang in the ESWC Open Invitational group recently. Third place is a cool $2,000, but given he has got so far after an early knock down to the lower bracket, the LB Final should be a strong contest.

Lyn progresses to Grand Final

"This is why I chose Turtle Rock in the 3rd game against Shy because it has many good item drops such as claws or slippers of agility"
Elsewhere June 'Lyn' Park defeated Shy to progress to the Grand Final, where he will play the winner of Shy versus Soccer for the $5,000 for 1st place.

The SK Gaming player was one of only two orcs in the competition, and faced Night Elf in all three matches so far, and will once again have to beat the Sentinel in the Grand Final, regardless of who wins the LB final.

However, despite it being his second strongest match-up Lyn does not think Night Elf opponents are easy, "I played only elves in this tournament, it is so hard for Orc," said Lyn.

"If you play Orc you will know that playing versus Night Elf is difficult, unless you have luck and good item drops, it is very hard," said Lyn, "this is why I chose Turtle Rock in the 3rd game against Shy, [in the UB final] because it has many good item drops such as claws or slippers of agility."

So with Lyn's good results against Night Elf, what does he think of the dissapearance of Bear/Dryad as a Elf strategy? "Bear and Dryad is still good, but maybe only on Twisted Meadows since TM is not good for archers, so Night Elf go huntress," said Lyn.

"The creeps on this map are not good for archers, make it too easy to creepjack, that is why huntress/bear is a good strategy on TM," said Lyn, "but Night Elf will fake on this map since Orc users will assume huntress = lore tech, and archer = wind tech, so Orc players must scout well." Hard or not Lyn has still managed to make his way through the playoff tree, with one win remaining to seal another gold medal.
