World Cup winner Pelé: I'm bad at videogames

ImageWorld Cup winner Pelé is part of a new upcoming football title but the Brazilian has little confidence in his own video gaming skills.

"I am not good, I play sometimes but I can never compete with my son or my daughter, they are twelve years old [laughs]"
With the chaos that is E3 an important video interview slipped through the net but was fortunately caught in time. World Cup winner Edison Arantes do Nascimento otherwise known as Pelé, widely considered to be the greatest football player of all time, talked to the BBC during E3 last week about a new video game he is taking part in.

The game is unsurprisingly a football game, entitled Academy of Champions, a fantasy take on the sports game which made Pelé what he is today. So is Pele a video gamer himself? "I am not good, I play sometimes but I can never compete with my son or my daughter, they are twelve years old [laughs]"

"I accepted to be part of Academy of champions, because it is a way for me to back with the new generations," said Pele, "but I stopped playing soccer and I do not score any more goals [laughs]."

When asked if his presence in the new title could help Ubisoft dislodge the likes of FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer the Brazilian replied "Yes, I think the reason Ubisoft call me is for that."

"What I try to push and to tell to the people is that the game is nice to play, the father should be aware of what kind of game he is playing. But in our game you do not have violence, you have bad guy, you have strong guy, but you do not have weapons. No weapons in a football game is fantastic." Although it remains unsure which football games Pele has played that contain weapons.

"I had thousands and thousands of offers wanting to promote whiskey, cigars, cigarettes but I never accepted"
When asked what he would say to others who believe his involvement is purely driven by money Pele said: "Others can think what they like, what is more important to me is my philosophy of life, what I can pass to the youngsters. For those people maybe they forgot that I never did commercials for drinks, for cigars, never."

"I had thousands and thousands of offers wanting to promote whiskey, cigars, cigarettes but I never accepted because it is not my philosophy. This is important to have a goal in life, and mine is to pass a good message on to the youngsters."
