MLG: Kollektiv no match for Enforcer, SK lead group
SK Gaming USA look set to challenge for 1st place in Group A after a 3-1 defeat of Team EG, fnatic and eMazing Gaming.
Their next major encounter was against Evil Geniuses , who after their 3-0 whipping of Gravitas Gaming in their opening group match, looked set to give SK Gaming USA a rough deal. Tim 'Kollektiv' Yen was in good form but it was, the SK rogue Joe 'Enforcer' Morrone who dominated the match, with the only map dropped due to poor choice of strategy to try to down the EG shaman Kollektiv.
A Rogue/Mage/Priest mirror match against Gravitas was to follow, Enforcer continued to shine at his first LAN event for SK putting the Gravitas Rogue to shame with his damage output, while Mark 'Pookz' Rendon's strong performance secured a pefect 3-0 victory. However, it was compLexity Red who threw the spanner in the works for SK. Complexity are a stable and solid team and the match went to the fifth and final map, but ultimately it was Complexity who took the three points.
With so many strong teams at the event it was important for SK to bounce back in their next match and they did defeating MLG Dallas 2008 winner fnatic EU 3-1.
The next match was against eMazing Gaming who use hunter/dk/pala, considered the best counter to rogue/mage/priest, as it was the same setup that won the regional Finals in Korea outclassing the RMP skills of the Extreme Masters Global Finalists SK Gaming ASIA and Button Bashers .
EMazing Gaming had just swept aside another RMP combo Ensidia 3-0, but courtesy of a great choice of strategy and excellent play by team-captain Ryan 'Realz' Masterson, the Hunter/DK/Pala RMP killing machine was stopped dead in its tracks, with only one loss on Ring of Valor, a map who's balance is still in question.
SK Gaming have the best round-difference so far and with only one match left against Ensidia, they could finish the group in style.
