Germany a step closer to violent games ban

ImageAfter months of hot air and nonsense, it seems that a ban on violent video games could become reality.

Computer games in Germany have never had a great relationship with politicians but it has gotten much worse since the horrific school shooting in March. A lot of political points-scoring ensued, including calls for outright bans on violent games.

It all seemed a little bit removed from reality, but now Gamezine is reporting that politicians have reached an agreement to that effect. The ban would effect any game "where the main part is to realistically play the killing of people or other cruel or unhuman acts of violence against humans or manlike characters."

This would have a huge effect on gaming in general but esports could potentially take an even bigger hit. With Germany being the capital of esports in Europe, a ban on violent games like CS would cause huge damage to our young sport.

The law still has to go through parliament, and would be effective before the elections in September.
