MLG Columbus is underway and SK-USA won its first game in the group stage earlier this morning.SK Gaming’s US team got their MLG campaign off to a great start in the early hours of this morning, beating Pandemic 3-2.
Although SK almost killed Nathan 'Kintt' Quinn several times they actually went 0-1 down on the first map. The second game on Lordaeron was a classic example of a target swap. SK opened up on the opposition warlock, putting out a lot of pressure. But when their druid neglected to HoT himself SK swapped perfectly, taking him down inside a couple of shatters.
The see-saw battle continued in games three and four as Pandemic took a 2-1 lead, only to be pulled back by SK. The fifth and final game started on Nagrand and again SK opened up on the warlock and tried to swap onto the druid. But a great deathgrip put pay to that swap. SK kept training the druid, controlling his team members perfectly. But although they couldn’t manage a kill, they forced the druid to focus on healing himself, which left his mates vulnerable. When Kintt got feared, they swapped back on the warlock and dropped him in no time at all.
Elsewhere, the other early games were completely one-sided. eMg, EG and coL all took 3-0 wins against Ensidia, Gravitas and Fnatic respectively. That puts Evil Geniuses top of group play thanks to alphabetical order. With four teams qualifying for bracket play, SK is in a good position although there is a lot of WoW still to go.
