Setback for UK CS scene: UKCT soon gone

ImageUnless a buyer for the site can be found, the UK's only 1.6 coverage site could be a thing of the past.

Counter-strike has suffered many setbacks in the United Kingdom since the start of CGS. But one of the last bastions of "the good old days" could soon follow the likes of Akujii and Harriman into retirement.

UK-Counterterrorist's current owner, Philip Wride announced in this column that he will give up the site to finish his degree over the summer:

"I am going away for the summer to finish my Masters dissertation and am looking to move away from eSports on completion of that degree and as such close ties with all the things I am involved in; one of those is UKCT."

If a buyer is not found by June 10, the site will effectively close down, leaving the UK CS scene without an independent coverage outlet.

UK-CT.net was originally founded as a rival to UKTerrorist. But despite still being technically online, UKT's last news post is dated August 5, 2006. The loss of UKCT could well be the final nail in the coffin of CS in the UK.
