KODE5: China rejoice, for wNv has done us proud

ImageWhen the five Chinese arrived in Moscow yesterday, perhaps nobody knew that they are under the tag of wNv.GM, the brand that shocked the world in 2005 at WEG and nobody expected that they could shock the world again in 2009 at KODE5 Global Finals.

"Almost four years later, only gore is still playing for the German powerhouse. And the wNv.GM's roster is a completely different one."

The first opponent for wNv Teamwork GM is one of the favourites in Moscow, Mousesports from Germany. The matches remind me of wNv.GM versus Mousesports at ESWC 2005 Grand Final where the Chinese were eliminated from the tournament by mouz on de_inferno with 16:14. Almost four years later, only Franz 'gore' Burghardt is still plays for the German team while the roster of wNv.GM is a completely different one.

The first match was played on de_inferno which turned out to be a total disaster for the five Chinese, ending up 16:7 in mouz's favour. Not until the second half on de_dust2 had wNv.GM shown the world what they had got.

We all know that T is supposed to be the easier side on this map, and the Chinese gave up ten rounds in the first half as T left them very little hope, that was what most spectators were thinking at the time. Some of the Chinese fans had even turned off their computers after having watched what happened.

ImageBut wNv.GM never give up easily, that's what they have been showing us since 2005. They drew the match into overtime after a better defence than anyone could have expected. And JK's three head shots with Desert Eagle were of vital importance to the team, putting up the necessary momentum to secure the victory on de_dust2.

Coming into the third map de_nuke, no team had the advantage. Both team showed a strong offence this time, and the match was forced into overtime again. But this time wNv.GM did not give the Germans any chance at all with a 19:15 to advance to Quarter-finals.

As I mentioned before, nobody expected wNv to win over Mousesports before the matches started. Some of the Chinese fans even said that 1:2 instead of 0:2 would make them feel happy, and they could accept the fact that wNv.GM were eliminated from the tournament with 1:2. But the irony is that it was Mousesports who were out of the tournament after a 2-1 scoreline.

"The line-up was recruited just three months ago, not even a strong team. But the team is never too weak to produce upsets."
"The line-up was recruited just three months ago, not a strong team of course. But the team is never too weak to show upsets." That's what one of the wNv.GM players said in an interview prior to KODE5 Global Finals.

When k1R killed gob b with a head shot to confirm their victory on the deciding map, de_nuke, more than 3000 comments were posted over PCGames, one of the most popular e-Sports websites in China to cheer for the winning team and say congratulations. In other words, all the Chinese fans have been supporting them along the way.

Although wNv.GM won the BO3, it seems that lack of experience and patience are still the biggest obstacles for them to shine at a higher level, and their next opponent WICKED eSports will not be an easy one.

However, I am still proud of wNv.GM no matter what their result will be in Quarter-finals, and so are all the Chinese fans, because the five Chinese have told the world that they do have the potential to bring you some upsets against the top-tier teams, who knows they might even do so in the Quarter-finals?
