The Titans: Hit By the Age Limit

By Kim 'KidArctica' E.

"We finished first at ESWC and second at WCG with whimp, so not being able to use him had an impact, definitely," says Simon "eGene" Kullenberg. The Titans lost to begrip in the loser bracket semifinals and are out of CPL Dallas.

According to CPL rules, those under 17 are not allowed to compete in the Counter-Strike tournament as it is "Mature-rated". The Danish team The Titans was one of the teams that got affected by this. "Whimp just turned 16, but he is our best player. I think it is kind of lame to have an age limit. You can't blame the game for crime and school attacks," eGene says.
NO PRESSURE
The Danish team were seeded fifth in the tournament, and that was also eGene's goal for the CPL. "I was hoping for top five, but we should have placed top three, I guess. Still, we have pulled off some good matches, and showed everyone that we are still a top team."
The Titans didn't get as much practice as before the WCG and the ESWC. They attended the finals of the Danish eSports league, which they won. In addition, they bootcamped for one weekend at KK's place. "We played all the CPL maps, and went through the tactics and stuff so that we could get them down a bit better than last summer when we finished sixth," eGene says.
He didn't feel any pressure at all because of the limited preparation of the team. "We haven't played that much since the WCG, as we all go to school, have work and girlfriends and stuff like that. Of course we can win, we showed that at ESWC, but we played way more before that event. At that time, two of us were not going to school. So training is the reason of the result here."
DISAPPOINTED
eGene was happy with the start of the tournament, but The Titans got in trouble when they faced EYEBALLERS. "They just ran over us, and we couldn't do anything - they were too good for us. Then we lost to compLexity. I really don't know what happened," he sighs.
Both he and the rest of the team were disappointed after the loss in a match they thought they should have won. Now, they will make some changes. "When we get home, we will go through every map and switch around most of the players to get stronger defensively. We pulled it off as Terrorists in every match, but we didn't win more than five rounds as Counter-Terrorists. So that is what we have to work on."
Except from the result, eGene is quite satisfied with the CPL. "It has been great. The admins were fantastic and I liked the new rule saying that you can talk when you die until the screen fades out. Also, the security has been great. We are not used to just leaving our computers in the BYOC area and walk away, but it is almost impossible to steal anything here," he smiles.
Apart from a few problems with the models lagging, the technical aspect of the CPL worked perfectly as well. "The computers have been great, the network has worked fine. There weren't any big problems."
Still, eGene would like to see CPL remove Fire and Strike from the map rotation. "Mill is ok, and it is played more often by European teams now. But they should just get rid of Fire and Strike. I don't like the maps. They are just not good enough."
