NFS champion SK.Sliver to train TMNF for WCG
Niklas "Sliver" Timmermann has confirmed rumours that he could train at TrackMania Nations Forever in the hope of qualifying for the WCG.
Sliver told Slidestar.org that he awaits for WCG to reveal all the information regarding the title before deciding to compete. "At the moment i'm only racing a bit in the VRTCC, because my studies are taking up most of my time. But as soon as the WCG announces its rules I will train hard and then decide whether I'll attend the tournament."
With only the top three qualifying for the Grand Final, Niklas 'Sliver' Timmermann's goal would be nothing less. " My goal of course is to qualify for the Grand Final. A 4th place or similar would be a disappointment," said Sliver, "but if I see earlier already that there's just too much space between the top players and me, I will choose to not attend the event."
There is of course precious little time for Sliver to reach the same level as long-term players of the free racing title, but he already races in two games for SK Gaming and his previous racing experiences could come in useful. However, Sliver voiced his hopes that the WCG would return to more classical racing titles. "I hope, even if it is not nice, that TMNF will soon be replaced at the WCG by a steering wheel game again."

Niklas 'Sliver' Timmermann has already won the WCG and the SEC, and has represented Germany in racing titles many times but the choice of TrackMania Nations Forever as a title for WCG 2009 could mean he must train at a game he has voiced his dislike for in the past.Sliver told Slidestar.org that he awaits for WCG to reveal all the information regarding the title before deciding to compete. have fun with playing trackmania niklas :P :P :P ;)
I'm pretty sure when he starts training, online, it won't take long till he'll give up.
Trackmania is highly unlike any other racing game and defies all the physics you know from real cars. Learning to master all technique's is 1 thing, but finding consistency on a track whilst still driving near a World Record is another.
But we'll see how long it takes for him to figure that out himself ;), because the interview with Slidestar sounded rather arrogant and he seems to think he can do it 'just like that'.
*me puts on flamesuit.
I can speak out of experience as i'm a 'top' Trackmania player and know better than that ;).
Just like Need for Speed ;]
It's impossible to just pick it up in half a year and go for the top, especially in a country like Germany where the scene is the 2nd largest next to France.
and thats simply the reason why i never really started playing trackmania, because it isn't a racing game compared to the _SIM_ ones, and there is no sense in learning a complete new game (for me)
it's definitely a complete other game and quite hard to get on top lvl....
but when there is no NFS tourney at all, why not changing the game and get a new chance..
its gonna be a long and hard way, indeed, but when he proves to be a "racing champion" he deserves it, doesn't he?
Reading this news I really get the impression that Sliver is underestimating this challenge very much. There is almost no chance at all for him or any of the other successful NFS players to win something in TMNF if they have never even played the game seriously before.
He is talking about qualifying for the Grand Final but I think it will already be a really hard task for him to qualify for the National Final because the competition is a lot harder than in NFS and there are just so many high level players around who have years of experience.
What also makes me laugh is that he wants to wait for the WCG rules before starting to practice seriously. This may have made sense in NFS as you needed to know which cars will be allowed and which tracks will be used but not in TMNF because there is only one car and no setups, so you need to master the game in general if you want to be a good player and not only practice hard on 5 certain tracks for a few months...
Of course Sliver can prove me wrong but right now I am very sure that he won't be successful in TMNF.
nah..just a weekend! go go silver!
