A joke? It takes the results from QuakeLive and makes a ranking based on that. Just like WoW does. This is not a system to determine seeds or anything like that.

A bit angry that we are not in the top 100 are we? :)
Be more active and show us that you should be in top 10 like we are used to from Q3.

if you wanna make rankings, you should do proper ones with tournament results, and let id software handle the rankings for public games where the avg. noob can compare himself or smth. Those will be added again soon anyways (reworked leaderboard).

Btw. this ranking doesnt even look at DNFs, so a player could have 200 wins and 0 losses because he simply always quit.
(there already are some of those players in the higher ranks from what i could see). Also there are fakers in there.

What im basicly training to say is, this ranking is maybe something for the quakelive page, but nothing for a competitive gaming website where things are supposed to be taken a bit more serious. :)

edit: if this would have anything to do with me not being in there, why would i suggest using only tournament results, since i haven't played any ql tournaments either.

why do they need to add in tournament results when there have barely been any quakelive tournaments? It's not like 3/4 online tournaments are statistically significant compared to the thousands of public games played daily.

Its not a skill ranking as far as I can see. If it was Fooki and Bodzo would be #1 and #2 since they are the only players who have represented themselves in any QL tournaments and came 1st and 2nd respectively. Same goes for blanka at 67th when he should be 3rd.

Either way its nice to have stats ranking while there's no official quake live ones!

Still its fun while there isn't anything else, really ID software hasn't taken the competitive side of Quake Live very seriously so we should be happy for what we get and if this can motive some guy to become a new star its great.

Have you even followed Quake Live? your comment is nothing short of ignorant. For one ID software Hired CPMA's arQon to help develop the netcode and the competitive side of things. Remember its still in BETA so not everything's gonna be launched all in one go.

This system that SK has just launched is next to identical to the old QL stats rankings and should be classed as a stats ranking to stop confusion. It appears that a lot of people are mixing it up with a skilled list.

Have you talked to people working on Quake Live? They have numerous times said that they have not cared about the competitive side (really read it again, I used past tense). They will take it more seriously the more we pressure them but they are still far from embracing it as a natural part of their game.
Not allowing others to play against their friends without being interrupted by other players is enough evidence that they do not care right now and have not cared. They might care in the future but I doubt based on their previous performance.

Ofc, J. Carmack cares about engine only, rest is noob :) Making a FPS into browser = skill, nothing else really needed for QL... but I hope also that they will add some web based competition rather than closed community based, closed for all newcomers

Zappater, try joining #quakelive. SyncError talks with the community frequently, its there that he mentioned the private servers with additional features for non public play. So in a way yes I have spoken to some of the people working with quake live. Also considering ArQon answers questions over on the ESR forums also. You just look stupid for insinuating that they don't care about the competitive aspect of Quake where they are actually putting effort in with Quake Live.

Quake 3 and 4 were alot different as they were open to modification from the first 2-3 weeks of release when they actually released SDK's, where Quake Live is a closed web based client so its not available for modification in the same way. They have to develop it a lot differently than the vanilla release. With QL they have hired a community liaison and are making an effort to develop it how the majority of the scene wants it, aside from off the wall suggestions.

This ranking is based 0 on opinion, it is all math. If they arent in the top 100 its due to their numbers, not to their reputation.

Well, you say 2 things that go against each other imo. Once you say it means nothing and then that a good player can get into top10 if he tries hard. And also, if you want to spend days faking SK rating by multiple accounts, u seriously need some help :)

It gives people who aren't true pros something to strive for. Obviously the best of the best are only focused on tourney results, but those players who don't frequent tournies have a little extra to strive for to try and be in this top 100. Plus, maybe if they reach there they will feel skilled enough to go to a live tournament, making bigger tournament numbers. Theres really no downside to this ranking, regardless of whether it is 100% accurate or not. Its just math, nothing else.

You don't understand ELO rating at all. If you even looked at the list you can clearly see it's not sorted on win loss ratio. In order to get to the top of this ranking you need to get points. The higher the player is on the ranking the more points you will get for beating them. So good luck beating newbies all day until you have 60-0 because they are going to give you ZERO points and you will get nowhere on the ladder.

You need to beat the top to be at the top. So this type of ranking has a lot of potential and is NOT meaningless at all. But because they only recently started tracking results it's still a bit random, they just need more games played.

They're barely playing any QL so how could they get up there?

You do gain more points for winning a better player (the match score is also important), and also you lose a lot of points if you lose versus a bad player. As a matter of fact you can even lose points even if you won a match with let's say 6-5 score while the difference in points between you and opponent is huge, because you're then expected to win with a bigger margin. But yeah, disconnects are a problem because we can't know if player quit on purpose because he was losing or simply his connection broke. I'm curious how will ID handle that if they release their official ranking.
