Serious Gaming’s Swedish Undead player Hjalmar 'DowaQ' Högberg and mTw’s German Orc player Eric 'Eric' Marten are invited to this weekend’s ESWC Masters of Cheonan to replace retired Yoan “ToD” Merlo and absentee Shohei 'Liu' Yanagisawa from Japan.
The looming third tour of ESWC Masters, ESWC Masters of Cheonan is set to open in Cheonan, South Korea between 2-5 May, but the invited French maestro Yoan 'ToD' Merlo announced his retirement four days prior to the opening of the event, while Shohei 'Liu' Yanagisawa decided to withdraw from the competition for undisclosed reason.
Despite that ESWC made a waiting list in addition to the attendee list last month in case any participant could not make the trip, International Esports Group (IEG) opted to look elsewhere as they named Hjalmar 'DowaQ' Högberg and Eric 'Eric' Marten the replacements.
While IEG revealed it was the young Swede's impressive run in various competitions that caught their eyes, the group did not provide comment on the selection of Eric in mTw's press release.
“We here at International Esports Group are proud to announce the invitation of Hjalmar "srs[razer]DowaQ" Hoegberg to ESWC Asia Masters of Cheonan. With the recent retirement of Yoan "ToD" Merlo, using the young DowaQ as a replacement was an easy choice.” the press release reads.
“With his recent results such as qualification for the NGL 1vs1 league, a stellar performance during EPS.Scandinavia, and wins over several big international names in other leagues and torunaments, it is clear that DowaQ is a player who deserves a shot in a prestigious event like ESWC. He is surely a player to follow during this event.”
The last two places will be decided through the Korea qualifier right before the Masters, whereas WeMade FOX’s Night elf player Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang and mTw’s Orc player Du Seop 'WhO' Chang were handed direct qualifications.

He is the best player I've ever watched play
How much does it take to look at a ranking from a site and notice that there are by far better players and talented players than him. LiiLD.C, Knoff, Sokol, Bonecracker, plaladyn or Sting. It is called ESWC masters where master compete. They are basically throwing a spot away they can give to Koreans or a player who might stand a better chance than him.
...must be the organization that brings him there. Alternate probably can't afford sending someone to china who will most likely win no money.
Anyway: gl both. dowaQ really deserved that spot. he needs to gain experience on big LANs !
and yes eric is a retarded choice
ok serious now - i hope to see remind over there! he is playing really well lately so i think it would be great for him
