World of Raids is reporting that Blizzard cancelled 2009's World Wide Invitational.Although the news was originally reported back in February, it slipped under many people's radars. But today, WOR re-reports that Blizzard did indeed cancel the WWI event. Blizzard claimed to have 'merged' the WWI with Blizzcon, but this is one less tournament for WoW, WC3 and SC, in a year where esports tournaments are already dropping like flies.
Even in these troubled economic times, it seems surreal that a company who's flagship game boasts a population larger than most countries should fall prey to financial difficulties. But with no further explanation given, this is surely the line of reasoning that most fans will follow.
This also means that there will be no Blizzard event in Europe this year. This is especially bad news for World of Warcraft players, who have to sit back and watch VODs of American teams in MLG until ESL announces EM IV.

WWI was great last year, too bad.
So prolly not
it cant be that bad because atleast they get EMS and all they have to do is control 1 character running around an arena killing another character =_=
ammount of controled characters got nothing to do in teamplay games -.-
If anything Blizzard should profit from the crisis, there games are independent of highend hardware, and more unemployed people means more people playing WoW.
Quite disappointing, with all the tournaments gone and Sc2 coming up, you'd think that at least Blizzard keeps holds the flag high.
Would be quite fun, the pro tryies to battle with a noob or PvEr and then analyzis how he plays :D
WTB worlds top 1 player to play with me zomg!
I do kick everyones ass in pvp(not arena, not enuff gearz as expected) as dk tho...only gear that matters :o
