ToD calls time on pro-gaming career

ImageFollowing the departure of former team-mates Mykhaylo 'HoT' Novopashyn and Yuri 'Sting' Sheremetov yesterday, France and WICKED eSports Human player Yoan 'ToD' Merlo put an end to his illustrious professional gaming career.

The Germany-based multi-gaming organisation terminated their contracts with Mykhaylo 'HoT' Novopashyn and Yuri 'Sting' Sheremetov as the team struggled to edge a place in the online playoffs for the season finals to be held later this year, but they kept hold of Yoan 'ToD' Merlo as the Frenchman penned a long term contract earlier last month.

WICKED eSports, in the meantime, stated that they would not work against the player’s will should he eye elsewhere, and ToD decided to mark his last appearance in his team’s game against mTw in WC3L the end of his career.

He told Fragster.de, “Today I've decided to end my Warcraft career, after playing for many years I think it's time to move on! I'd like to deny the rumours going around that I didn't get paid.”

While he remained coy on the reason for his decisions, he told Replays.Net that he quit the gaming scene for good, "There are many reasons that led to my decisions. I have a lot of plans in hand right now. I plan to stay in Korea for a while and learn Korean, but I will not continue my career when Starcraft 2 comes out, nor will I play DotA or poker."

Winning his first major international title in WEG Masters in 2006 after beating former team-mate in Four Kings Manuel 'GrubbY' Schenkhuizen 3-1 in the Final, he went on winning Extreme Masters Season 1 Finals, Blizzard Worldwide Invitational 2007, IEF Masters, and WGT 2008 Global Final. A WC3 Player of the Year award issued from eSPORTS Award crowned his golden year in 2007.

He is currently participating in the star-studded NGL ONE Solo League Season 1, and it remains uncertain what NGL will act with concern to his retirement.
