Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen, captain of the Warcraft III team of Evil Geniuses that saw the light yesterday, highlighted the offer from the North American team as “the best choice” he had.Manuel 'GrubbY' Schenkhuizen established the former Warcraft III team of Meet Your Makers together with Dmitriy 'Happy' Kostin and René 'Ciara' Krag back in mid-February, and they had since breezed to a 6-1 run in WC3L this season. However it appeared to be an unfortunate incident when they lost sponsorship again at the start of April, Grubby believed it was indeed a blessing in disguise as it paved the way for a speedy union with Evil Geniuses.
He told tatazu.com, “As you know, on 1st of April, MYM went down again. But, I knew before this date that all things weren't going well. Additionally, now that I was team captain, I had additional responsibilities. My concerns were not only for myself, but also for Happy and Ciara.”
“So I started to cautiously talk to some people. Some of these people I had talked to already, in January 2009, when ESNation kicked MYM.wc3. As it turned out, the timing this time was better for a cooperation of EG and ourselves, and the negotiations progressed steadily.”
Given their team's status and the current economic decline, many might wonder it could be a while before the trio sign an equivalent team, but not only they clinched a deal in merely two-week's time, but Grubby is convinced that they have found the ideal home in G7 member Evil Geniuses as well.
“I had a few wishes for my next team. They should have an efficient organisation, good sponsors and an excellent website. Furthermore I needed travel support and a good income."
"I believe operations of a team rely a lot on their website, and I think myeg.net can meet the standards. There were a few other teams and organisations who approached me, and I'm sorry to disappoint them. EG is the best choice for me.”
When Grubby was released by Meet Your Makers in late January, his partner revealed he could call it quits should no offer was on the table, but with that concern cleared, he vows to remain in the scene for the longest he can, "I hope that I can play eSports for many more years to come. Warcraft 3 for as long as I can, and then maybe Starcraft 2."
