The Quake Live team has announced a new update, which was valid for any user to download starting earlier this morning.The Quake Live teams has announced quiet a few changes in the update tonight, here are some of them:
They have also added something called Duel Detective, which will help you easily find Duel games, here is more info about it:
They have also announced on their IRC channel earlier, that in a near future, they will release a package so that anyone can host their own private Quake Live server, which will benefit all Quake Live TDM, CTF and CA Clans to start practising against other teams instead of trying to find an empty server.

"Better In-game Voting Notification - Now when a vote is called while you're playing, the information presented in the bottom left corner of the screen should be a bit more clear, and more importantly, we've added the ability for you to press the Esc. key during a vote to see a full, on-screen explanation of the vote that has been called and allow you to click to vote."
They have also added something called Duel Detective, which will help you easily find Duel games, here is more info about it:
"This system let's you flag yourself as "available" for a duel and then looks at other players who've done the same, evaluates location, skill and other factors, and then notifies you when the match is ready. Our plan is to use this system for other gametypes in the future, but we're working first on Duel."

I see this game being played on a pro level in major tournaments... it'll be more "mainstream" since it's free and can be played from your browser :-D
I'm an ex quakeworld player and this shit sounds sooooooooo good to my ears :-D
For the "private servers" you adressed, I think you should read the article instead of trolling like a dumbass.
That would be awsome :)
At last Quake Live will be playable.
So.. a little todo list:
- fix the hitboxes for some of the characters
- add more maps, especially training / fun maps, where you could practice rocket jumps for example (tbh we don't need new "official" maps, the current list is enough)
- instagib with rocket launchers
