ex-MYM.Neo: "We were just very, very unhappy"

ImageTwo-times ESWC winner Filip "Neo" Kubski speaks about the fall of ESNation, ESWC Masters of Cheonan, KODE5 and their decreasing motivation.

After the fall of ESNation, the former MYM CS team are still without an organisation despite a strong performance at Extreme Masters Global Finals in Hannover, and more recently a 1st place in KODE5 Poland. Neo explains.

Since the fall of ESNation you and your team-mates have just played under the name ex-MYM. Why have you not thought about being more original and giving yourself a fun name until you find a new organisation?

"While searching for new a organisation, which is very hard nowadays, ESWC announcing bankruptcy was just too much."
ex-MYM.Neo: I guess we just couldn't find a compromise since everyone had lots of crazy ideas for different names. And it was only at KODE5 Poland [which was over the internet], so it didn't matter I guess.

A few days ago the "death" of ESWC was announced, having signed a contract to say that ESWC 2008 prize money would be paid out a year after the tournament, how did you feel when you read the news? You and your team-mates are still owed $40,000 that you could possibly never see.

ex-MYM.Neo: It was just a shock for all of us. While searching for new a organisation, which is very hard nowadays, ESWC announcing bankruptcy was just too much. Right now we are just missing the motivation for anything in e-Sports. The worst thing is that we've heard ESWC is contacting some organisations regarding prizemoney, but since we've left MYM, both of them do not even think about contacting us in that case. It's just ridiculous.

ImageYou've won the ESWC twice, would you say the ESWC is the most important tournament to you and your team? If so what will you focus on instead, WCG?

ex-MYM.Neo: You can't say ESWC is the most important one. We prepare as good as we can to every tournament. We see every event as an important one.

Do you think given the fact that many teams have reduced their squads and expenditures, you guys might accept a lower offer just to keep in the eSports circuit?

ex-MYM.Neo: Yeah we think it is necessary if we want to stay in the eSport. Everyone is just struggling right now as you have heard, so it must be impossible to get such conditions as we have had in MYM.

How regularly have you been practicing and playing?

ex-MYM.Neo: Even now when we do not have the motivation, and we do not even know if we will go to any tournament in the near future. We practice as we used to, 5 days a week for a few hours, maybe not the same ammount of hours but still we are trying to develop our game. We've always been a team who practiced a lot, usually more than any other.

Are you guys any closer to being able to attend the ESWC Masters of Cheonan? You recently qualified for KODE5 in Moscow, do KODE5 cover the expenses for that trip or will your attendance again be based on finding a new organisation?

ex-MYM.Neo: To be honest we don't know yet. Unfortunately I think it's already too late for us to go to ESWC Masters in Korea, since they want to be sure they will have complete list of teams, and we are not completely sure if we will be able to go there or not. And I hope KODE5 will pay for our trip. Meanwhile we are still trying to find an organisation, so we could go to Korea if it's not too late.

During the course of the Extreme Masters MYM.CS seemed to have a personal battle against mTw and Alternate, would you say this is true, and does it affect your ability to find training partners if you publically express a dislike for a given team?

ex-MYM.Neo: You got it wrong, it's different! Everyone knows the difference between the game and real life. We've been going out and partying with both teams and everyone knows that whatever was said or done during the tournament doesn't mean anything outside it! We are all friends and we don't have any battle outside the game - but inside we are enemies, hehe.

ImageTwaizz and Pops stated Frontspawn A/S are still actively trying to help you to find a new team, despite you not being under contract with them anymore, is it a hardcore search for a organisation or are you guys happy to play on your own?

ex-MYM.Neo: We are not under contract with anyone yet, and Twaizz is still helping us with to find a new organisation, he is still our manager. And we are not happy at all to play "on our own", because it means we won't be able to participate in events which we all love so much.

Would you guys ever consider attending events through your own pocket, in other words paying for yourselves?.

ex-MYM.Neo: I think it would be possible for events close to Poland, but I guess for example a trip to Korea is too expensive for us.

Would you consider returning to PGS? If not, why not?

ex-MYM.Neo: I don't think so. PGS is not the same team anymore, there are different people right now and I also don't think they would be able to give us the support we need.

"We will try to do our best at KODE5 in Moscow so maybe then. If not I will start searching for a normal job."
Did you ever personally think about the idea of quitting CS after MYM became a Franchise or when ESNation announced it would cease all operations?

ex-MYM.Neo: No. We were just very, very unhappy about the fact that we got to know about the bankruptcy of MYM/ESNation from the news on eSport websites, which meant we were without a job. If it would happen earlier we would've started searching for a new home for us before that.

Finally if you are unable to find a new team, what do you plan to do?

ex-MYM.Neo: We are still trying to find something, and I hope someone would finally offer us something. If not I guess we will try to do our best at KODE5 in Moscow so maybe then. If not I will start searching for a normal job.
