I was never quite shocked at someones ignorance as I have been today. Hussein Askary is the Operating President of a Labour party in Sweden who are proud followers and fans of LaRouche, a political activist.

This group, now known as the LaRouche movement or EAP are blaming games for problems such as school shootouts, cultural and social problems and why not, while we're at it, Western terrorism. One of his articles is quite simple entitle "Acting against the killer games of DreamHack".

Indeed, all you gamers from DreamHack have earned a golden star and a skill-up in the killing profession. As simple humans, we obviously do not come to grasp with the difference between reality and fictional characters which we created for entertainment purposes. No of course not, our real purpose to participate at DreamHack is to "put the final touches to ours skills to kill our classmates". For those of you that didn't get, yes I was being sarcastic.

He follows on by blaming two specific games, being Counter-Strike and Battlefield II (oh, so I can play the first one then?), of being the source to school shootouts as they brainwash gamers into violence. Indeed, all 13 Million steam users are "mental slaves" to the games, it has absolutely nothing to do with free will of entertainment or anything.

These accusations are what made gaming websites such as netcrash, readmore and fragbite raise their fist in anger. In return, they got an attemptive slap-back by being accused of being part of the source of enslavement to computer games. He is indeed blaming you users and readers for being "trolls" to enslavement.

As for the attempt to stop DreamHack, it has written "FAIL" all over it. The Swedish Exhibition CEO Lennart Mankert recieved a letter with the demande to cancel the event held from the 10th until the 12th of April. He replied with one extremely valid point: "These games are not illegal". As long as Counter-Strike and Battlefield II will remain available for purchase, we shouldn't see DreamHack dissapear. Lennart Mankert adds "The Swedish Exhibition follows the Swedish law, and will not filter out some games as long as these do not violate the law. "

Hussein makes these accusations in the form of a video where he is seen relaxed and smiling while accusing million of people of being so called "western suicide bombers". Watch his full accusations below (in Swedish):

As a final note, the man did put a smile on my face, not only for his bogus accusations but also for the picture featured in his video where you see a young boy playing a video game. The picture is entitled "Is The Devil in Your Laptop?". Funny, I thought that was a PlayStation controler he was holding?
