The9, World of Warcraft's Chinese operator has revealed that they will face bankruptcy if the new expansion is not approved by the Chinese government soon.As we reported last week the Chinese government rejected the new WoW expansion Wrath of the Lich King due its content not meeting their requirements despite the Death Knight class being left out completely.
The9 announced it had licensed the World of Warcraft expansion from Blizzard Entertainment in April 2008 which would not have come cheap. Add to that the cost of maintaining their supercomputers which according to The Register are 5 of the top 10 supercomputers in China, The9 could face real trouble if the game is not approved in the near future.
Around a third of World Of Warcrafts subscription are from Asia with a high amount in China and with now The9 facing money trouble - especially with rumours of Chinese WoW players having either quit or moved on to Taiwanese accounts for their Wrath needs - WoTLK is going to have an even bigger struggle to reach the Chinese market.
