Quake Live is finally open for the public. This will enable all FPS lovers to play a fantastic game based on Quake III from the comfort of their own browser. As announced last week Quake Live was set to be open for public this week.
Beforehand, people were only able to join by applying for a beta account or getting invited by a friend who owned one. The open beta now enables anyone to sign-up and play. You can find it on quakelive.com.
Starting the 6th of March, you will be able to reserve your tickets for the QuakeCon event held in Texas. The event which will be North-America's biggest BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN will give 3 000 gamers the chance to play in Quake Live tournaments, conferences and exhibits, with no participation fee.
Some downtime is however expected within the next few days for small updates in order to give gamers the best free gaming experience. For those of you already signed up you may notice the long queue, the only thing for that is patience or trying again later.

SyncError: Rumors are that we have a billion in line.
SyncError: So if you're # 8,000 or so, that's not too bad in the grand scheme of things and we hope you hang on!
Yep, its pretty shitty atm. After all the shitty waiting the placement training game bugged about 5 times in a row...
I hope its not like this for the next few weeks, or we are gonna lose a shitload of people like on Quake 4's launch.
Also: Mac isnt supported yet. Eh well! Syncerror said they have plans to go multi platform in the near future after the full release is out the way.
Anyone else getting this?
Been in the queue 3 times now-.- Taken like 30-50 mins everytime.
Of course I could make another account and try...
(Trying with another email now then.. )
zZz
Everyone's trying to play now. I just logged in to watch a couple of demos since I can't sleep. I had to wait in an 9k queue
many good people walking around
I wonder how this game will work after a while... The beta was great. I really enjoyed it. But if we gotta wait to connect all the time... :/
Hope they find a solution! Wish the best for this game!!! Weve been missing a 1on1 FPS game in tournament recently!!
Fucking hell. Gonna try this later when i have time to play it x)))
Hope they really fix everything and make the server bigger and better...
from 3k -> finish took me around 5mins .. so..
i dont know what ppl QQ about, it's kinda fast
It was really bad at beta and when it went live, but atleast it got better. Not that fast but now it's good enough so that you can never guess how bad it was over 6 years ago :) Can't believe how fast time goes by. Steam was released like 8 years ago :)
I Love that part, QL ftw

They screwed up. They should limit the number of the registered users instead of letting everyone register. At least the closed beta participants could play, but hell not. ._.
"You will automatically move on to the site when it's your turn. Technology is so cool. "
fat.
I don't think there will be any queue to play Quake Live once it's finished, but for the sake of the Beta and for testing purposes they will have the amount of users playing limited.
Everyone knows that it's a beta test.
And why they screwed up? Because even the good old beta testers can't play because of the tons of new players. I'm pretty sure that 90% of the new players NEVER tried quake 3 before, because those who were in touch with this game before, or maybe just played it sometimes (ie. maybe once in 2 weeks) already got an invitation from someone. Try to imagine: thousands of the old players standing in queue while some newb just getting familiar with the basics of the game. And that makes me pissed.
But you know what? It's ok, in fact, it's cool that the number of quake players are increasing. But please, let the old ones play too.
players would be the old players and the other half would be the new players.
(sorry, I fail at editing comments ._.')

SHUT THE GOD DAMN FUCK UP. Its FREE, meaning they dont have to give you shit, they could give you 24hour que if thats what they wanted. and 15-30 minutes is literally nothing considering that if there is 1k players in que on a wow server, the que can be an hour. So stop bitching. If you wanna play "RIGHT NOW" Like a little kid, or at a certain time, i suggest you go que up before you wanna play, only casual players should be interested ing etting "5 minutes of entertainment". So shush. Be happy its free for all
At least i think that the whole system rocks! And im sure they will get it to work better later on! Its just very packed atm, cos everyone wants to try it probably.
But cmon you cant be serious that you dont mind the queue for a half hour everytime you play :P
Time to watch 24 S07E10
If you have 1 hour lunch break and want to play some QL with your friends it would be a damn shame to wait in line for 30mins or so.
Servers in Asia are also a must for ID.
Just my two cents.
1 crash... and still 14k ppl before me :P
Maybe the game is the victim of its own popularity
