A university professor Constance Steinkuehler says that online games like World of Warcraft creates better citizens.Yes, it's true, when it comes to professor Constance Steinkuehler's sayings, online games like World of Warcraft on top, change players into better citizens.
Steinkuehler is currently running a study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison regarding the MMOGs and people, who play them, including obviously herself as well.
"Players hang out and engage with one another in informal social ways," the professor said, "most people go for the game and stay for the people. Kids today are growing up in thoroughly networked global spaces."

She has been doing this study for several years already, but on Tuesday night she shared the evidence in the "Learning and Virtual Worlds: The Education Benefits of Digital Technologies" presentation that she kept at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art Lecture Hall. "Players hang out and engage with one another in informal social ways," the professor said, "most people go for the game and stay for the people. compared to a game like CS where a noob can have a lucky headshot against a pro and still win whereas in WoW a lvl 1 noob doesn't stand a chance against a lvl 80... he'll keep hitting the guy for 2 hours until he drops a hp...
ppl will keep thumbing down anyway :D
The same thing happens in WoW (talking about 2 level 80's, of course).
A person that has played for years, and another that has just reached 80, won't play the same way (even with the same gear).
wait, what?
In CS there are no levels that distinguish power, speed, accuracy etc. everyone is on the same "character".
A noob who hijacks a level 80 won't stand a chance against a pro level 80 and you KNOW it. Same goes for CS.
Biased in a way that study doesn't seem to show the negative impacts on people (like addiction to gaming for example...or sedentary behaviour...etc...) but still fun read :-)
Thus people keep coming back =]
So I guess whining about burst damage is like speaking out against injustice, pulling low level characters is like doing community service and farming gold is good practice for every day work life: Long hours, mediocre pay but you still keep going?
Playing WoW has its positive aspects, but I don't see how it affects you as a citizen.
i think its obvious that she means that kids dont just hang around doing crazy stuff and talk about senseless stuff, but discuss about things and getting more close with a more adult way of doing it, dont know if this is perfect english but i hope u get what i mean^^
I mean, PC's is rather new and most "old" ppl didnt see a PC befor they were halfways thru their life. Just wait until we get old, and I'll bet that eSport will prolly be as normal as other sports are today. You prolly think I am talking bull now, because I know WoW can be bad for you. But its just that if you had put WoW to a more competetive lvl instead of just gaming 24/7 and idelling in IF, it would just have been like going to football practice.
kinda scares me
wow has absolutely NO impact on ALL non-retarded people.
like ex-SK player Swarm
P.d yes i have played wow for 3 years and still do although less hardcore
