Tatazu.com is now reporting 5 games for the 2009 World Cyber Games circuit have been selected.
The World Cyber Games, held in the highest regard by esport competitors and organisations alike, will touch down in Chengdu, China for the 2009 Grand Finals.
Over 700 professional gamers from over 70 countries will storm Chendu later in the year for the opportunity to be awarded a gold medal by one of the most prestigious esport institutions.
According to Tatazu, this year Starcraft will mark its tenth appearence at the World Cyber Games event, negating any rumours that perhaps Starcraft II might replace it. Throughout the WCG's 10 long years of Starcraft competition, South Korea is the only nation to have won a gold medal, though there have been several non-Koreans to have made the grand finals. If history is anything to go by, then at this year's grand final we should see someone from the Starcraft peninsula up against a European or Chinese player, however, history also indicates that the Korean will be leaving with gold.
Also making a return is Warcraft III, returning for a seventh time as a WCG title, though the popular Warcraft mod DotA has been dropped this year. Warcraft has gained significant steam within Chinese borders over this past year or so, now with the WCG finals coming to China, the game is sure to be further ingrained within the culture.
Virtua fighter 5 and the increasingly more popular Guitar Hero: World Tour have been selected as Xbox titles, while Counter-Strike will be back for a record tying tenth time, though it has changed forms over the years, from 1.6 to Condition Zero to Source and back to 1.6 again.
This is as of yet unconfirmed by the WCG, several more titles are expected to follow.
StarCraft (PC)
WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne (PC)
Counter Strike 1.6 (PC)
Guitar Hero: World Tour (XBOX)
Virtua Fighter 5 (XBOX)

I guess the release will be postponed (even if there's no release date, I was hoping...)

I still think WCG is a joke. I'll think the same when the rest of the games are announced (Cell phone games, bitches)
boring to see starcraft again and again, year after year... the only tournament where all esport community hear that title.

FIFA will be played at the finals, 100% sure :)
Virtua Fighter 5 (XBOX)
