Cassandra "PPG" Ng has presented the possibility of Grubby opting to retire if he does not receive a worthwhile offer from a new team in her latest blog.Despite Grubby's retirement being enough to send shockwaves through the hearts of Warcraf3 fans, the most interesting piece of information within Cassandra's blog is that it was initially planned for MYM to keep hold of a few players instead of release them all.
"Since one month ago or so there were talks of keeping only 1-3 players in the team..," said Cassandra, "but closing the whole Warcraft III team altogether was unheard of. 'Is this a mistake?', we thought."
Grubby enters the market as a free agent today but with even MYM unable to afford the Dutchman, it will be slim pickings to find a team able to pay his worth.
"Even if Grubby retires from progaming, it is not the end of the world," said Cassandra. The last statement is definately a matter of opinion, it may not signal the end of the world but would certainly indicate that perhaps the golden age of Warcraft3 has passed us by and dark days lay before it.

According to the Singaporean the news was a surprise, "when we first heard the news yesterday afternoon, we were both very disappointed." The decision to drop the entire Warcraft3 team reached the duo via a telephone call following a meeting of the MYM board where Warcraft3 was voted off.Grubby enters the market as a free agent today but with even MYM unable to afford the Dutchman, it will be slim pickings to find a team able to pay his worth.
"Even if Grubby retires from progaming, it is not the end of the world. "
"Perhaps if he gets an offer that makes it possible to continue doing what he loves, he might go for it," said Cassandra, "if not, retiring from progaming is the next option." Cassandra believes that even if Manuel 'GrubbY' Schenkhuizen did decided to leave he "would walk away with his head high, and many worthy stories to tell his grandchildren. "Even if Grubby retires from progaming, it is not the end of the world," said Cassandra. The last statement is definately a matter of opinion, it may not signal the end of the world but would certainly indicate that perhaps the golden age of Warcraft3 has passed us by and dark days lay before it.

Fov and also the other well-known players haven't found a team for a long period, but I never heard they will give up playing war3 just because no team pay them for that.
oh meenn /sad
I really hope he finds a new team or even a private sponsor like Moon, or this would be one of the sadest days for WC3 if he retires.
After all it's his own decision and we have to respect that, but all the news in the last few days are not a good sign for WC3 in 2009.
I hope he wont retire, he's to good for it, all the Wc3 teams needs a player like Grubby!
Wc3 will never be the same without Grubby. =/
The scene must be boring without his basetradegames, whineblog, linkinparkmusic, cheating, badmanner etc .
Plz dont retire Grubby !
entertainment and development of the game. And i will find arguably anyone who will
consider Manuel as a guy who didnt contribute do WC3.
Yeap, the retirement is an option, which my give the floor to new stars, but... these new
stars will have to shine in black hole, because the WC3 scene is become just this.
ToD, HoT, Grubby, Moon, Lucifer and many more were clanless. So imagine what is going on.
The thing im afraid of is that WCG and ESWC will drop the WC3 as game, cuz the lack of
interests!
I hoped this moment with the retirement will come later in the timeline.
GL to the scene!
That is really humble to think that one player going inactive can indicate the end of the game. If that was the truth, the game should have ended when MaDFroG/Inso/HeMaN/Sweet went inactive.
First of all, neither one of the four players can´t compare with Grubby. Why?It´s simple:Grubby is one of the most popular and widely known player of w3 for years,he is like an ambasador of w3.It´s not important whether he is good player or not. What is important is that in 90% of cases, when you ask someone to name a progamer in w3,the first response will be Grubby.
So that is why his retirement would have huge impact on w3 scene, much more bigger than retirements of Sweet,MadFrog,Inso,HeMan or any other player. You can like him or not,but Grubby IS the most popular progamer in the world.
Secondly, those who say that w3 is gonna die just because Grubby is retiring are morons, most of them are Grubby´s fanboys. As usual, they overreacted.
Football didnt die cause Pele,Maradona or Zidane retired, basketball didnt die cause Jabbar,Jordan or Magic retired.W3 should survive Grubby´s retirement but the world of progaming will be shaken. Not just cause that would mean retiring of one of the best players, but also one of the most popular person in e-sport.
But,imo w3 is dying not because of Grubby´s retirement.Just look at all bad news:team leagues are cut to minimum, teams are disbanding every day, many players are retiring, there are many active players that are clanless cause there is no money to pay them...all of these facts are leading to slow, but inevitable end of w3...
are u fucking serious , just look at PGL how many top players there were , lol - Hot , Infi , Sky , Lyn , Happy , Fly , Th000 , Fov , Check , etc , etc
People would say that Grubby is the most popular player now - maybe yes.But years ago , when Inso/Sweet/Heman/Frog were active , especially at their peaks - 2003/4 I am not really sure about the answer.Nowadays the Euro market is pretty much dead (except for Germany) and thats where Grubby`s biggest fanbase is , unlikely in China/Korea where Sky , Moon/Lyn clearly dominate (fanbase wise)
Stop making up things!
And yes, that means the death of the scene - the recent events show it, believe it or not, smartboy!
I also dont want to say it cuz i follow and like W3, but thats the truth, my friend
No my friend. Players come and go, new Grubby's will come to the scene and after a while you won't notice his absence.
What numb said is more closer to the trough but not the right. Grubby demands huge wages, that's why no one will hire him.
are you retarded ? Who said that there was no team to hire them ? You stop making things up LOL.Grubby has been without a team for 2 days and YEAAHAHAHDHADHA NO ONE IS GOING TO HIRE HIM OMFG OMFGOFMGOFGFMGM lol.ToD said that there have been teams that were interested in him but he didint mention their names.Look at Moon , just as he got released he most certainly will find a new team.I am sure that there are teams who have offers for Grubby but if they cant satisfy his requirements , thats completely another story
These players either will lower their req. or just quit the game , thats it.There are new players that are coming up and the change of the "generations" is completely normal. If you say that wc3 is dying , u must be pretty PRETTY retarded cuz the number of the tours that were in the past , "wc3`s golden age" , are like 1/2 of the tours that we have now.Nowadays , there are like at least 2 big solo events per month , just for January we had PGL , EMIII , WC3L finals
You didnt quite understand my post.Football DIDNT died cause many good players retired.
W3 isnt gonna die cause Grubby is retiring,I mentioned the reasons why w3 is dying in the lower part of my previous post.Of cours thats my humble opinion.
So if you think that all the reasons I mentioned why w3 is dying plus SC2 is gonna be released soon, are ridiculous,I have nothing else to say to you my friend.
:DDDD
Warcraft 3! Great game! Great memories!
Time for it to die...
