Leipzig Games Convention's organizer has officially announced that the trade fair is no more in 2009.The trade fair's organizer Leipziger Messe confirmed that there will not be Games Convention 2009 event between 20-23th August, when it was scheduled to take place.
The cancellation happens due to the German publishers deciding to organize a rival event, Koelnmesse's GamesCom taking place in Cologne between 19-23th August 2009.
Games Convention is not completely gone though, as the company is launching Games Convention Online that is set to be organized from July 31th to August 2nd. Games Convention Online will focus on browser, client and mobile games and it will have two different areas including trade and professional public and one mainly for gamers.
"This is a completely new and fully independent product for a market that is adjusting to new business models, setting off along new sales routes and appealing to new target groups," the CEO of Leipziger Messe, Wolfgang Marzin says and continues to add: "Browser, client and mobile games are on course to becoming a big success story and in that way, the Games Convention Online is like the GC - Games Convention when it first began. We are delighted that as trade fair organisers, we can again accompany this development too."
