UC Berkeley now offers students the option to participate in Starcraft classes, where they'll delve into deep analysis of the Starcraft mechanics and study how "war is conducted within the confines of the game Starcraft."

Class lectures will be held where topics ranging from strategy to game mechanics will be put under the microscope and discussed amongst the students. Detailed replay analysis is also part of the curriculum as is homework – yes, Starcraft homework.

The class instructor wants students to learn to enjoy and appreciate Starcraft as an art form "The primary goal is for students to learn, enjoy the art of competitive StarCraft, and have fun," as he explains.

"Overall, students will be applying critical thinking, quick decision-making, and game theory skills throughout the sessions. Students will also learn what to look for in a replay or game to learn most effectively," he said.

It should be noted, however, that the course is a very serious dissection of Starcraft and not simply a way to accumulate credits while improving your apm, students "should be familiar with all units and some basic StarCraft strategy" and "Calculus and Differential Equations are highly recommended for full understanding of the course."

Over the years countless players have had to retire from Starcraft competition to devote their time to school studies, now, at one California university at least, they are one in the same.
