Blizzard has the release date of the StarCraft II beta set but still under wraps. Likely to be released within three months of the eventual announcement, the beta sign-up will be available to BlizzCon 2008 attendees and online participants. In a recent interview with StarCraft Wire.net, Blizzard's RTS manager, Xoriah, spoke about the upcoming release of the beta and the precursing announcement. As obviously viewed by thousands of attendees at the latest BlizzCon, StarCraft II's multiplayer aspect is finished and only the beta testing remains for fine tuning the gameplay.
However, Blizzard remains adament in not announcing the release date quite yet. This comes as no surprise, considering that StarCraft II has been in the works since WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne and only in 2007 was unveiled to the public eye. This beta for the first part of the StarCraft II trilogy is a very strong sign of the game's impending release date, set sometime in 2009.
So, from what has been presented, we have now a less-vague time period for the release: ??/??/09.
