EM: Sky makes the finals, Grubby hanging on

ImageWith his two to nil win over Grubby earlier this morning, XiaoFeng "Sky" Li has secured his participation in the final at the Chengdu, China Extreme Masters event.

The two titans of Warcraft met in the upper bracket final after semi-final wins over their opponents Zhuo 'TeD' Zeng of World Elite and Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang of MeetYourMakers.

Initially, Manuel 'GrubbY' Schenkhuizen and Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li faced off on Melting Valley, where Grubby tried his hand at a tower rush, a strategy now synonymous with the human race.

As apposed to towering the main base of Sky, Grubby focused on the expansion by lining the parameter with towers, delaying his tech and producing an excessive amount of grunts. While Grubby was successful in neutralising Sky's economy advantage, Sky in turn took advantage of Grubby's vulnerable build by tower pushing himself. Sky's tower push proved very effective as Grubby really only had grunts on the field, without a second hero or a beastiary Sky was able to construct his towers without incident and take the first game.

The second map was Twisted Meadows where once again, as a result of Grubby's cautious play style, we saw him building an early warmill and constructing two defensive towers, as well as training a Pitlord second. Sky backed down from his tower rush to expand instead, as did Grubby. The two danced for a while and things were looking very good for Grubby, but just moments before the climactic battle, Grubby let his air units wander towards Sky, losing a handful of batriders as a result, after which he left the game.

This is Sky's second victory over Grubby in as many days, whether or not Grubby will have an opportunity to even the score will be decided tomorrow.

The winner of Moon and TeD will go on to face Grubby in the lower bracket final tomorrow, the winner of that match will then go on to meet Sky in the grand finals where they'll need to win two best of three matches to claim first place.
