ESWC organisers have stepped in to clarify that MYM will infact be eligible to defend their title at ESWC 2009.However, according to the new rules sent out yesterday to members of the press, it seemed the title defender berth would not be extended to MYM or to PGS.
MYM did not qualify for the ESWC in 2008 but instead travelled to the event courtesy of PGS, the organisation they had won the title with the previous year by playing under their name.
The ESWC website however, was changed yesterday afternoon and the Male Counter-Strike 1.6 champion is now down as being PGS/MYM, instead of PGS Gaming as it had been since the end of ESWC2008, more than four months ago.
According to ESWC CEO Matthieu Dallon the 2008 title belonged to MYM because the Danish organisation were "the official club registered at the 2008 event, being, therefore, the beneficiary of both the prize money and the autoberth."
Furthermore, the new rule introduced today concerning the title defenders autoberth would therefore be extended to MYM as "PGS had no team at the tournament". This seems to go against a news item posted only a day after the end of the ESWC 2008 Grand Final.
ESWC News item from August 2008

The big question is if MYM did sign the ESWC Regulations prior to the event, were the beneficiary of the prize money and were indeed the "club official registered", then why should they have been allowed to attend the ESWC2008 having already failed in the qualifiers? If MYM qualify for this years finals because "PGS had no team at the tournament" then why was the champion of ESWC2008 down as PGS Gaming on their website?
Although there seems to be a lack of consistency one thing is certain, the ESWC want to make sure that their defending champions can compete without a repeat of the complications of last year. The ESWC will once again feature the team that has dominated its competition over the last two years, and they will attend under the name MYM.

Contacted by myMYM.com, ESWC CEO France Matthieu Dallon explained that the 2008 title belongs to Denmark Meet Your Makers as the Danish organisation were the official club registered at the 2008 event, being, therefore, the beneficiary of both the prize money and the autoberth.

here you go with the answer
Like Nadal winning Roland Garros 3 times in a row :D
Next time just let the TEAM who won defend the title, jeez.
So stupid in my opinion.
Of course if a team win ESWC -> team disbands into many teams -> no autoberth to ANYONE.. But if a team changes company -> same team (with max. 2 players changed) -> AUTOBERTH, cos they are last years champions.
Its CS, not football or something. The players deserve the most respect. Not the companies. IMO. Even if ESWC is like "World Championship of eSports"... "the country (like in football WC)" is the players, not the company.. Otherwise SK would represent Germany and so on :/
Good they finally made the right decision! Good luck MYM at ESWC ;)
That's all.
mYm must win!
Yes, the players should be respected and so, but if in their contracts states that the slots/prizes/whatever goes to the orga, they should also respect the contract.
For instance, if Real Madrid wins the slot to the Champions League, it's not the same team that goes, but the new team with the new players... Why? Because that's assured on the contracts of the players...
I think that the last year's choice was the best possible, first, giving PGS the slot by ESWC orga, and also the PGS choice to give the slot to MYM, since they had no team atm.
