Group A of the highly anticipated Extreme Masters Chengdu, China stop has concluded with Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen coming in first, just edging out longtime rival Xiaofeng "Sky" Li.
Manuel 'GrubbY' Schenkhuizen managed to top his group after a very close series of matches between all of the participants. Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li sat atop the score board while Zhuo 'TeD' Zeng and Grubby hashed it out for second place, however, after Mykhaylo 'HoT' Novopashyn defeated Sky in an two to nil upset, the road for Grubby to claim pole position was left wide open.
Throughout the group there were some very exciting matches, including a near repeat of Jung Ki 'Susiria' Oh versus Hyeong Ju 'Check' Lee from the NGL ONE finals after TeD settled on a dual crypt, mass ghoul build versus HoT on Echo Isles, where TeD performed phenomenally well.
The final match on Twisted Meadows went as well as a match could go for Grubby, when his tier two harassment took a favourable turn after he picked up a tome of experience. Grubby pressed TeD while the undead was trying to creep an orange camp, where Grubby was able to kill no less than four fiends without the aide of ensnare, hex, stomp or any other control spell.
Despite losing to Sky in their match together, Grubby was able to top his group after Sky lost two to nil versus HoT, while Grubby had lost his match versus Sky two to one, giving him one additional map win.
Sky and TeD will now play relegation matches versus June 'Lyn' Park and Xuwen 'InFi' Wang to decide which two of the four will advance to the playoffs.
Group B meanwhile has already begun, you can follow the matches through our coverage page and the ESLTV stream.
