SK.reis: "World Elite certainly deserved the title"

By Min-Sik 'reis' Ko

ImageMin Sik "reis" Ko talks about the WC3L Finals in Chengdu, what went wrong, why ViOlet played instead of Lyn and the departure of Soju and ReMinD.

"It has been a while since I wrote a piece and I'm getting back into my normal routine after a busy time at the WC3L Finals in Chengdu, China.

Let us talk about the WC3L Finals here in Chengdu where we finished 2nd. I have to admit that the event location was the worst I have ever attended, it was really cold in there.

"It was even colder than outside and the location itself was way too far from the city centre "
It was even colder than outside and the location itself was way too far from the city centre so I do not think even I would have gone down there if it was just to watch some wc3 action. So there were not a lot of people which was kind of reasonable.

TeD showed why he is right now the best Undead in the world.I will not not talk much about the tournament itself because I guess the results is okay and World Elite certainly deserved the title. We had an unlucky start in the finals by losing to World Elite 2-3 with close games but the the deciding game was Lyn against TeD where TeD showed why he is right now the best Undead in the world.

ImageHis timing is just amazing and he trained the map Ancient Isles hardcore because World Elite sort of expected us to seed Lyn on that map. Having lost the first match it reminded us of our last WC3L Finals in China where we ended up 3rd place after losing to MYM. Following the World Elite match we played Fnatic which did not go as expected but we made it through.

Some people were asking why I let a new player like Dong Hwan 'viOlet' Kim play, the thing is that we as a team decided to let him join us at the finals in Chengdu. He played instead of SoJu versus World Elite and instead of Lyn versus Fnatic.

"Lyn was pretty pissed about his performance against TeD and he needed time to calm down"
The reason why Lyn did not play was that we had to face fnatic right after the war versus WE and Lyn was pretty pissed about his performance against TeD and he needed time to calm down and asked for a break versus Fnatic. I will never force any of my players to play and I hope people can understand that.

World Elite made a clever move to switch the 2on2 team against us because TeD and LiKe did not really stand a chance against ReMinD and Soju, sometimes moves like that pay off and you have to try hard to win a final. It is really hard to train versus such a combination because World Elite have two of the worlds best Human players and there are no other humans who have more experience than them in towering. Their victory was fully deserved so I'm not bitter, the best team won on the day.

ReMinD and Soju

ImageThe departure of ReMinD and Soju is now official, two of my players and closest friends have left SK Gaming. A lot of heard people heard about it and ReMinD mentioned it already in a video interview. Their contracts expired last year and well it was our last tournament together.

During the time at the NGL ONE Finals in December we talked and I asked them if they still wanted to attend the WC3L because they will not be under contract anymore.

We've known each other for a very long time from back in our days in World Elite and we've always tried to stick together as a team and we are happy that we did until now.

"We've always tried to stick together as a team and we are happy that we did until now"
I had a lot of fun with both players and we will still keep in touch because it was more than just a player-manager relationship. I hope that both can find a new home together because both are incredible players and nice people.

They might have lost the 2on2 in the Grand Final but from my point of view they are still the best 2on2 team in the world. I Hope they can find a new home as fast as possible because it would be a shame to see them leaving the Warcraft3 scene that they've contributed so much to and played a part in bringing Warcraft3 to a new level."
