Weiliang "Fly100%" Lu has taken gold at the PGL Season IV Grand Final to seize his second major title since his 1st place at NiceGameTV League Season 1 last summer. It was a gruelling battle between the two Chinese players but Weiliang 'Fly100%' Lu had the crowd in awe with some excellent moments of micro magic. Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li fought valiantly levelling the score each time Fly100% took the lead and with his tower rush on Fly100%'s base in the final game of the series, the game looked over.
Fly100% had other ideas however, and kept playing through his nearby expansion pairing his Blademaster with a Shadow Hunter and perpetually held off Sky's attempts to finish the game. With nothing left to do, Sky called gg to allow Fly100% to take first place and $11,700.
Final Standings
1. Weiliang 'Fly100%' Lu - $11,700
3. Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li - $5,850
3-4. Xuwen 'InFi' Wang & Du Seop 'WhO' Chang - $2,925
Game 1 - Tidewater Glades
Mouz.Fly [1:0] WE.Sky
Early signs of promise as Fly pulls off an amazing surround on Sky's Archmage using two mirror images and forcing a tier 1 teleport out for Sky. Sky went for Beastmaster second but even he was victim to a Fly surround. Sky passed the cloak of invisibility from his Archmage to the Beastmaster with under 50hp to save his skin, but only momentarily. Fly quickly returned with a dust of appearance but the Beastmaster had escaped and was on the run, one shockwave and a hit from a farseer and the BM would unleash the beast no more.
No other real skirmishes until the final battle of the map near the goblin shop where a Tauren Chieftain with sobi mask and mantle of intelligence sent shockwaves through Sky's army. With a superior and larger supply army, Sky's army was over-run by Fly's horde, game one to Fly100%.
Game 2- Road to Stratholme
Mouz.Fly [1:1] WE.Sky
Sky quickly leveled his Archmage to 3, boughtg mercs from both sides of the map, but Fly surrounded the Archmage again as he went to shop to buy dust and with no tp was stuck. So as his footies+pessies went to tower he was without his AM for support. In that time Fly built two watch towers for defence,
A great move was Fly's strike on Sky as he crept the merc camp for some more suppoort and experience. Fly windwalked and struck the troll priest but then by chance got another critical strike to kill it. He quickly hired the little golem and using the slow spell slowed the AM continiously as his BM followed with his blade. Sky tried to use peasants and footman to block and surround the Blademaster, but Fly went for his last Wind walk waiting patiently around the towers before striking down the AM and running out of tower range with under 60 hit points on his hero.
Luck struck again as Sky hid behind his 7-8 towers just outside Fly's base. Fly once again attacking the AM (Archmage) got an additional critical stirke after he came out of the Windwalk. His next attempt to kill the AM around the towers backfired and Fly lost his Blademaster and then his base. The Chinese Orc had expanded but it was too little and too late with no Blademaster and just a few grunts, with his mini golems already reduced to ashes.
Game 3 - Twisted Meadows
Mouz.Fly [2:1] WE.Sky
Cross-spawns meant early creeping to level 3 for Sky before attempting a tower rush which backfired as he decided to try to go for Fly's burrow instead of defending the tower building peasants.
Tier 2 both pick up zeppelins and Fly uses his to raid Sky's peasant line with Blademaster and 4 grunts that proved successful. However, Sky quickly replaced the lost peasants by buying a Goblin shredder before going for the nearest expo spot and towering up.
Fly also tried to set up an expo on his side of the map but Sky forced two cancels to keep the lead while in the mean-time he teched to air. With gryphon riders and a tri-hero combo Sky continued his creeping path killing all the dragons bar the level 10 one in the top left hand red creep camp and proceed to creep anti clockwise round the map.
The match then began to mirror the encounter the pair had in the upper bracket of the individual elimination stage on Melting Valley and had the same end result. Fly began to mass bat riders and despite having a gold disadvantage quickly disposed of Sky's healthy air army which was still primarily gryphon irders with only a couple of DragonHawks.
Game 4 - Snow Drop
Mouz.Fly [2:2] WE.Sky
Fly opted for Farseer and early aggression going after Sky's creeping instead of doing his own. With Sky then coming into Fly's half the map some good surrounds by Fly forced Sky back but he returned to try for a tower push with the Beastmaster and casters for support. Fly however was expecting this and had gone for the lodge before the beastiary in order to have a better counter for tier 2 summons and slow.
Fly's tactic seemed simple, surround Sky's hero at any opportunity, and another surround on the AM forced Sky to town portal home. The next major encounter was outside of Fly's base and the added support of militia gave Sky the advantage along with a Nerubian spider summoning skeletons from fallen soldiers. Unable to deal with the huge amount of units Fly retreated with only his two heroes, Sky then pushed killing the Farseer to force the series to a final map.
Game 5 - Death Trap
Mouz.Fly [3:2] WE.Sky
The final game was a bit of an anticlimax with Sky once again going for a tier 1 tower rush after some early creeping. His initial towers however were out of range of the base allowing Fly time to set up his own watch towers behind his mains. Once again Sky pushes forward with his towers forcing Fly to build another mains outside of his base.
With a level 5 blademaster Fly fought on even managing to upgrade his townhall to tier 2 that allowed him to build a Shadow Hunter. Sky built his arcane sanctums at Fly's old mains where nine towers kept them safe from harm and allowed him to more easily push Fly's expansion. Fly fought on, building up a tier 2 army and held off Sky's tier 2 caster/breaker army. Battle raged on for 5-10 minutes until the Blademaster leveled up to level six and Sky threw in the towel and called gg.
