The Electronic Sports World Cup today announced the first details of its 2009 season.Despite recently being hit by the lack of a main sponsor, ESWC will soldier on in 2009 and today released the first tidbits for the new season.
Details of the grand final are scarce, other than the fact that they will take place in June. But Game Service announced the first batch of national qualifiers in an email. Though the list is currently incomplete, it can be seen below.
Preliminaries Announced
China
Colombia
France
Germany
Iran
Japan
South Korea
Madagascar
Malaysia
Mexico
Nigeria
Panama
Peru
Slovenia
Tunisia
Ukraine
However, ESWC fans from other countries shouldn't fear. There are a number of countries still under discussion, including traditionally strong countries and previous champions such as Sweden and the USA.

Good thing that there are some countries not very known in esports, which shows Games Service's wish of making esports grow everywhere =)
But it should be interesting to see teams from countries that are not known ^^
@super0x, no word on Hungary atm :(
at 2005 there were a Quallifier, but the Hungarian "top" players cant grow up to the Europeans
we try to change about this.. few teams turned into an Esport Assotiation, but we need 1 or 2 year to make up the arrears, but its to much
here is an evidance to the situatio: three years in a row, we havent got a normal WCG qualification
I can see the UK one being held in Gamerbase or maybe move onto an i-series if they need the bigger space as now Omega Sektor has gone =[ badtimes
Ok ok... that's kinda different... lets hope that at the end, all those got theyr qualifiers ^^
ESWC ftw!!
In all honesty, we just need a LAN in Mississauga to host it. Simple as that. West coast is brutal for location. Keep it GTA, and there's some decent lans in Mississauga that could probably run it, a lot like the Netherlands ESWC Qualifiers.
When the time is right, I'll be pushing for us to keep pushing ESWC for a specific location. Online qualifiers are a horrible thing, lets keep this LAN, fun, and professional =)
We're better than them for sure
Nothing against them but i wonder how they even got that invitation
