Orcs star in PGL Day 1

ImageOrc players have yet again been the dominant force in the opening day of PGL Season IV as Weiliang “Fly100%” Lu and Manuel “Grubby” Schenkhuizen steered their respective groups into upper bracket final of the team knockout phase.

The match between Group A and Group B sparked with both sides scoring one after another. Title holder Xiang 'TH000' Huang set the pace for his group with defeat of Mousesports team-mate Yanchao 'Lyc' Lu on the new map Death Trap, which was introduced by WC3L a month ago, before one of the most valuable players in NGL One Season 5 Finals in Berlin, Germany, Du Seop 'WhO' Chang levelled the scoreboard with several clinical finishes in the defeat of TH000.

The pressure was all on the young Colorful player Lin 'Wulin' Wu, who qualified with a surprising 2-0 win over Kejing 'Like' Li earlier this month, as eXpertise’s Undead player Zhen 'HopeStar' Xu would follow up next should he lost to the mTw player. Rather than creeping conventionally with Blade Master and grunts in early game, Wulin harassed WhO creeping which turned out more than fruitful, levelling his Blade Master to 2 ahead of WhO as well as sniping a grunt of his Korean counterpart, while WhO in the meantime not only wasted his scroll of teleportation after trapping his Blade Master in his own base, but his Level 1 Blade Master with Critical hit training was also way less efficient. Blessed with dream items Vampire Aura and Mana Potion later on when creeping, Wulin finished off WhO straightaway and restored their lead.

The rest of the match was, however, Fly100%’s one man show. The Mousports Orc player was finishing every bit in game with confidence today and left little room for his opponents to perform. Three consecutive wins over Wulin, HopeStar and Lyn put his group well in the next round.

Another eye-catching Orc player today was the World Cyber Games 2008 winner Grubby in the following match against Group D alongside his fellow Europeans Dmitriy 'Happy' Kostin and Mykhaylo 'HoT' Novopashyn. He signalled his ambition in the competition with two fine performances against Korean veterans Hyeong Ju 'Check' Lee and Dae Hui 'FoV' Cho and handed his team 2-0 advantage, before being stopped by Xuwen 'InFi' Wang of World Elite on Twisted Meadows. But that was the run of Chinese-Korean Group B, as the sharp Russian Undead player Dmitriy 'Happy' Kostin repeated Grubby’s double kill with defeats of infi and Like and booked upper bracket final meeting with Group B tomorrow at 06:00 CET.
