ESL today announced the first four invitations for the Asian finals in January. The news comes as little surprise to anyone with Grubby, Moon, TeD and Sky being some of the biggest names in esports. The last four slots are currently anyone's guess but ESL will be announcing them in the run up to Christmas.
The finals will be held in Chengdu over the weekend starting January 16th. A total of eight players will fight for a combined prize pool of $10,000.
The players will come into the tournament on the back of polar opposite form. Grubby and Moon's outing at NGL-one with MYM was disappointing, as they finished third out of three. The fifth race lost two out of his three games, as MYM slumped to consecutive 3-4 defeats. Grubby's individual play was more successful, but he will not be happy with third place.
Sky, on the other hand, is red hot after a second place at WGT and first at last weekend's CEG (also held in Chengdu). The Human player will be hoping to continue that form into the new year and a win at the ESL tournament would be the perfect way to do just that.
Sky's WE teammate, TeD, on the other hand had a torrid time at CEG, failing to make it out of the group stage. The Undead hero will be looking to make amends and start the new year as he means to go on.
Prize Pool
First: $5,000
Second: $2,500
Third: $1,500
Fourth: $1,000
